Alice In Borderland Season 3: Netflix Release Date, Cast & Story
It’s been revealed that Haro Aso’s Alice In Borderland Season 2 has wrapped filming and will be coming out on Netflix in December 2022, but what about Season 3? When will Alice In Borderland Season 3’s release date end up being on the streaming platform?
Is Season 3 even in the works? If so, what could happen in it and who will star in the third season of this brilliant Netflix series?
These are all questions that I’m going to try very hard to answer for you in this article.
First off, I’m going to have to give you a brief synopsis of the show.
I know, if you’re reading this, then you probably know what the show is all about.
However, the Google algorithm gods demand that these sorts of articles are over a certain length, so bear with me.
Is Alice In Borderland Season 3 in the works over at Netflix?
Here’s the show’s official plot synopsis (courtesy of Netflix):
Arisu—a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man—suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive. In this strange world, Arisu meets Usagi, a young woman who’s navigating the games alone. Together, they set out to unravel one mystery after another as they risk their lives and confront what it means to live.
Alice in Borderland is based on a survival and thriller manga (originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday S / Weekly Shonen Sunday) by HARO ASO, directed by Shinsuke Sato and co-starring Kento Yamazaki (Kingdom, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K) and Tao Tsuchiya (Library Wars: BOOK OF MEMORIES, Mare).
So, what’s going on with Alice In Borderland Season 3?
Well, there’s no official word yet on whether a third season is in development over at Netflix.
That said, given the show’s numbers for the first season and the interest in Season 2, I’m pretty certain that a third season will be made.
There’s quite a bit of story from Aso’s manga to go over and this is easily Japan’s biggest export as far as TV shows are concerned.
Netflix is also heavily investing in the Asian market after the huge success of shows like Alice In Borderland, Squid Game and All Of Us Are Dead to name but a few.
When could Season 3 be released?
According to Nilsen Report, Alice In Borderland Season 3 should be released at some point in 2023.
However, given how long it took them to make the second season, I would expect a third season to be released closer to 2024.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Alice In Borderland Season 3 be released in the December 2023 to April 2024 window.
That would give them enough time to film and edit the third season, and now that we’re coming to the end of the pandemic, then things might go a bit quicker as far as production’s concerned.
Who could star in Alice In Borderland Season 3?
As for who will star in the third season, it all depends on who will survive the second season.
The leads will probably make it to a third season: Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya specifically.
Those of you who’ve read the manga will have a better idea of the characters that could make it past a second season.
However, I haven’t had the pleasure of reading them yet, and that’s deliberate on my part.
I do not want to know what could happen next, therefore I decided not to read the mangas.
I might read the manga after the release of the second season.
What might happen in Season 3?
Alice In Borderland Season 1 ended with Arisu and Usagi watching several videos recorded by Asahi (played by Mizuki Yoshida), who had committed suicide during the game.
In the videos, Asahi and Momoka (played by Kina Yazaki) reveal that they are “dealers”.
This means that they are the players who were organizing the games to extend their visas.
In one of the videos, the pair visit an underground base filled with “gamemasters”.
Arisu and Usagi manage to locate the base, only finding a pile of executed “gamemasters”.
They also find Chishiya (played by Nijirō Murakami) and Kuina (played by Aya Asahina), who have also discovered the base and the fact that the “gamemasters” were actually players.
This is when a woman named Mira appears and introduces a new set of games to collect face cards.
It’s going to be really interesting to see what happens from that point onwards.
This will all be explained in Season 2, and I think that things are going to become even more complex in Alice In Borderland Season 3.
