It’s being reported that an Heir To The Empire Star Wars film is in the works for Disney Plus, which would be incredible if this ends up being true.

If you don’t know what Heir To The Empire is, then you’re in luck, because I’m going to tell you all about this incredible novel.

But, before we get into that, I wanted to go over where this report is coming from.

There have been reports from outlet Geekosity that Lucasfilm has been looking into developing the Heir To The Empire story into a movie.

However, Geekosity isn’t the only outlet to be reporting that this could be on the cards over at Lucasfilm.

Other ‘scoopers’ online have also been claiming that Heir To The Empire is a story that Lucasfilm is keen to develop for a future live-action project.

We’ve tried to find out more about thus project from our own sources, but we haven’t any information to add on a potential Heir To The Empire movie.

We also contacted Lucasfilm and Disney representatives directly asking if there was any truth behind these rumours.

They declined to comment, which isn’t a surprise.

That said, we did get some information about future Star Wars projects.

An insider did reveal to us that “Lucasfilm is actively developing Star Wars movies for release on Disney Plus, not theatrically.”

They continued: “Disney and Lucasfilm have been exploring the idea of releasing brand new Star Wars movies on streaming. These films could tie-in to the current crop of Star Wars shows.”

The insider added: “Think of the first of these movies being a sort of Avengers film for the Star Wars shows.”

Heir To The Empire would be a good blueprint for a Star Wars movie

This is pretty interesting because it sounds as though the plan is to have all of these Star Wars shows culminate into one big Star Wars movie, and the Heir To The Empire story could be a blueprint for that movie.

This makes so much sense to me, and now, I think it’s about time to explain the story in Timothy Zahn’s novel.

Heir to the Empire is a Star Wars Legends novel written by Timothy Zahn.

It’s the first instalment of Star Wars: The Thrawn Trilogy, and it was first published in May 1991.

Zach has since gone on to write another Thrawn trilogy, but it sounds as though people inside of Lucasfilm are more interesting in developing Heir To The Empire’s storyline for the big screen.

The novel is set in 9 ABY, five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, and it introduces the trilogy’s eponymous villain, Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Thrawn is a cunning and intelligent Chiss commander, who begins to gather his Imperial forces for a strategic attack on the New Republic.

Could Grand Admiral Thrawn become the Star Wars Universe’s Thanos?

With Captain Gilad Pellaeon and Thawn’s personal bodyguard, Rukh, by his side, the Grand Admiral begins to set in motion an almost unbeatable plan.

They enlist the aid of a mad clone of Jorus C’baoth, a dead Jedi Master, and use the Emperor’s hidden weapons vault on the planet Wayland, which the clone guards.

This then causes a chain of events which end up sparking major unrest in the New Republic.

We already know that Thrawn will play a part in the upcoming Ahsoka Tano series.

Thrawn was brought back into canon thanks to Dave Filoni’s Star Wars: Rebels animated TV series and he was voiced by actor Lars Mikkelsen.

We’ve been informed that Mikkelsen is all set to reprise his role in live-action.

It’ll be very interesting to see what happens with Heir To The Empire and this reported Disney Plus Star Wars movie.

MY FAVORITE Star Wars Trilogy, Zahn is absolutely hands down the greatest writer to carry on where the story leaves off.
