James Gunn says he has talked with Zack Snyder and said that the Man of Steel director fully supports Gunn’s new DC Universe. Since Gunn announced that DC Studios is building a new universe out of the ashes of the DCEU, not a lot of people were happy about it.

While some are excited about the new universe, some are saddened by the fact that Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill won’t return as Batman and Superman. The DC Studios co-CEO already confirmed that both actors wouldn’t be part of the new universe that they are building.

Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are committed to the characters since we’ll be seeing a new Superman in Superman Legacy and a new Batman in The Brave and The Bold. But who the actors are is still a mystery.

People are now hoping that the DCEU could continue somewhere else. Since Warner Bros. Discovery is licensing properties to different outlets like Netflix and Amazon Prime. Maybe Warner would be open to keeping the DCEU alive if it was produced by a different network.

Zack Snyder has been doing several projects under Netflix. Some wondered if it’s possible that Warner could licence the DCEU to the streaming network, creating the hashtag #SellSnyderVerseToNetflix.

For the past few years, we’ve heard about #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. It seems as though the new hashtag is a form of acceptance that fans have accepted that the DCEU won’t be returning under the eyes of DC Studios.

But the new hashtag did get the attention of James Gunn, and replied:

I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest (although we’ve discussed other stuff) & 2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to be happy doing what he’s doing (and, yes, we too have talked).

One fan asked what Gunn and Snyder talked about, and Gunn said:

He contacted me to express his support about my choices. He’s a great guy. Again, he seems really happy with the massive world building he’s doing now.

Zack Snyder has given a lot of his time making the DCEU, and for sure, it wasn’t smooth sailing. From what we understand, when he was working on Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, DC Films and Warner Bros were insisting on a lot of changes. Snyder couldn’t finish Justice League because of the death of his daughter, which led to Joss Whedon taking over finishing the film.

After his personal break, Warner didn’t even do anything for him to continue working on the universe he created. Yes, he was given another go at Justice League on HBO Max, which was successful. But after that, many would have thought that Warner could have made a Justice League sequel or a Man of Steel sequel.

While Warner was quiet, Netflix opened their doors for Snyder. Snyder was given full reign to make his own world with Army of the Dead and its spin-offs. And as soon as Snyder talked about his plans for a Star Wars movie, Netflix again offered to produce his idea into an original sci-fi universe called Rebel Moon with movies and spin-offs. The filmmaker is very busy, and because of this, I doubt he has time to think about returning to the DCEU.

The DCEU is not done as of yet. We still have a few more movies lined up within the SnyderVerse that we have yet to see. Ezra Miller’s The Flash is set to reset the universe. In other words, after that film, the DCEU will just be a shadow of its former self within the new DC Universe. It’s not going to be the same.

Gunn has admitted that they’ll be keeping a few things, like Peacemaker, Waller, and Weasel. We are all hoping that the new universe will have better results than what happened with the DCEU. While the DCEU was playing catch up, I do believe that Gunn has a focused vision for the new DC Universe. And I do look forward to it.

So far, we are waiting for new projects after DC’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters that would involve any other previous DCEU actors like Zachary Levi’s Shazam and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Gunn did say that he would like Gal Gadot back as Wonder Woman, but so far, he has no plans yet for her character.

I can’t deny that Zack Snyder made incredible choices in choosing his actors. His version of DC’s trinity was actually great. I just wish we had seen more of Cavill’s Superman and Affleck’s Batman before the universe ended. At least give them a proper send-off. Maybe it could happen. It’s not impossible when you think about it. If Marvel can bring back Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield into the MCU, maybe DC can do the same for the DCEU.
