The Flash director Andrés Muschietti is set to return for more DCU, says DC Studios. A report from ComicBook.com reveals that both the director and producer (Barbara Muschietti) will be making more movies for the DC Universe.

The movie hasn’t been released to the public, but Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios heads tell us that The Flash is one of the best things they have seen. Some have even compared it to The Dark Knight. We don’t know how credible those reports are, but it is promising.

The It director has been working on The Flash, I presume way more than he expected. They started filming back in April 2021 and wrapped up in October of the same year.

But with so many things going behind the scenes, especially with Warner Bros, DC Films and the overall DC Universe. They had to reshoot pickup shots that most likely changed the story from what it originally was. I can’t imagine what Andrés Muschietti had to go through.

During the press conference for the DC Slate Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran said:

We had input on it for sure, but there’s nothing we had to do in order to set up our universe.

The Flash has always been the movie that will reset the DC Universe. That was the plan from the start, even before Discovery bought WarnerMedia. The only question is how the universe will turn out after that.

There was a time when Michael Keaton’s Batman would replace Ben Affleck’s version. This was planned to be shown in the cancelled Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace.

When Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav took over, there were reports that they got Henry Cavill, Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot back to do pick-up shots for the film.

Now the DC Studios is in place, it seems that they won’t be using those shots. In other words, they didn’t have to film anything new to make the new DC Universe.

It seems to me that DC Studios just reverted back to how Andrés Muschietti envisioned the film. The end result might be different, but it won’t be as drastic as what Zaslav wanted it to be.

Gunn has said that they did talk to many of the filmmakers involved with other DC projects like Batgirl directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah. They even talked with the actors Leslie Grace, Ben Affleck, Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill.

Ben Affleck could possibly even direct a DC movie since that’s what he wanted to do in the first place when he joined the DCEU. So, it’s no different that the same would happen with Andy and Barbara Muschietti.

Gunn said:

What we did, we’re very close with Andy and Barbara, the director and producer. And he’s one of the guys that he’s going to be doing some more stuff for us. And he’s just done something really spectacular with that movie.

The new DC Studios already has its first DC Universe slate presented with several projects already in line. I’m sure they also have plans beyond that already. And with that, they need a list of incredible talent to work on these projects. Andy Muschietti is no different.

The industry can still consider Andy Muschietti as a young director with only four major films under his belt. However, he has already proven that he is an incredible filmmaker. Furthermore, he didn’t quit working on The Flash even with all its bumps.

James Gunn continued:

We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children. We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved.

Our commitment to Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Harley Quinn, and the rest of the DC stable of characters is only equaled by our commitment to the wonder of human possibility these characters represent. We’re excited to invigorate the theatrical experience around the world as we tell some of the biggest, most beautiful, and grandest stories ever told.

Even though we keep hearing from Warner execs that The Flash is good, it’s really hard to know how real that is. Considering Warner has committed to the film regardless of its success or not. Whatever happens, they’ll be pushing to show the film to properly reset the universe that still can make sense.

I’m just happy that the director will keep on working after The Flash. To what project that is, I don’t know. I presume he has an entire universe that he can choose from at this point.
