UPDATE: It’s been brought to our attention that Instagram and Threads are down as well now, which means it’s a Facebook/Meta-wide issue. WhatsApp still seems to be operational.

This situation is significant and potentially detrimental for Facebook. Reports have emerged that Facebook, now known as Meta, may have been compromised by a hack or is in the process of switching servers. This shift has resulted in millions of users, including ourselves, being unexpectedly logged out of their accounts. As a result, we find ourselves unable to post on our Facebook page or access our Messenger account. Similar issues have been reported by other users as well.

The implications of this outage could be particularly severe for the countless businesses that depend on Facebook for their operations. To be completely transparent, our own Facebook page—which boasts over 200,000 followers—and the engagement it generates are integral to our revenue.

The sudden logout and a possible decline in Facebook user activity could spell trouble for businesses. We are currently investigating the cause of this disruption. There are two main theories: one possibility is that Facebook has suffered a hack, potentially through a Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attack. A DDOS attack aims to overwhelm and incapacitate a network or machine, denying access to its users.

Alternatively, this situation could be due to Facebook transitioning to new servers. Typically, Meta would notify users ahead of such significant operational changes, but there has been no official communication from Meta regarding the current issue.

Interestingly, some of Meta’s other services—WhatsApp, Threads, and Instagram—appear to be functioning normally (UPDATE: Threads and Instagram seem to be down now as well). This suggests that the problem is isolated to Facebook and Messenger.

We have contacted Meta seeking clarification on the matter but have yet to receive a response. This article will be updated with any new information from Meta regarding the situation at hand.

For the moment, both we and many other Facebook users are left waiting for a resolution. We hope for a swift recovery of service, as it has been more than an hour without access to our Facebook account and the Small Screen page.
