Darth Plagueis is reportedly going to be making his live-action debut in the upcoming Star Wars series, The Acolyte. This report comes to us via a rather interesting post on Reddit, and I think this is a terrific move on Lucasfilm’s behalf. The series is set to be released on Disney Plus, and it’s easily the Star Wars show that we are most looking forward to watching here at Small Screen.

The Reddit post in question is from u/Aesokas (via Bespin Bulletin), and this new account on the social media platform has been growing in popularity on the Star Wars Leaks subreddit. Now, what has this Redditor been claiming? They are saying that the Sith Lord is going to be involved in this upcoming series. However, the Redditor was unable to confirm whether Plagueis will have an important role in The Acolyte.

It was revealed not long ago that this upcoming series is going to be set during the final days of the High Republic era. Here’s the show’s official plot synopsis:

Leslye Headland, Emmy-nominated creator of the mind-bending series Russian Doll, is a boldly innovative filmmaker bringing her new Star Wars series to Disney+. The Acolyte is a mystery thriller that will take us into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

So, this upcoming Star Wars series going to take place approximately 100 years prior to the events of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. To date, in the Star Wars live-action universe, Plagueis has only been name-dropped by Sidious (Ian McDiarmid) in addition to his heftier roles in the outfit’s Legends continuity. Should the Sith Master appear in The Acolyte, it wouldn’t only be his first appearance in live-action, but the primary Star Wars continuity as well.

There have also been some books written about the Sith Lord, but those novels are no longer considered canon after Disney acquired Lucasfilm. As mentioned above, this new Star Wars series is being helmed by Leslye Headland, a self-professed nerd of the entire Star Wars mythos—including its former Expanded Universe offerings.

“She is a gigantic Star Wars fan,” Kathleen Kennedy previously shared of the writer. “What’s wonderful about Leslye is she knows it all. I mean, she’s read a gazillion books inside the E.U. There are little bits and pieces that she’s drawing from that no one has explored yet in the onscreen storytelling.”

“The truth is that I, as a major mega fan, came to them with this idea. And I said, ‘I think the best place to put this is in an era you guys have not quite explored yet,'” Headland added. “They were very enthusiastic. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to explore that [existing] world, but I think that they already were because The Mandalorian and a lot of the other television projects were really relying on legacy characters.”

We still don’t have an official release date for the series. It was officially announced on May 4th, 2020, on StarWars.com. The announcement also revealed that Headland would be an executive producer on the project. The series’ title, logo, and general premise were revealed at a Disney investors meeting on December 10th, 2020. Rayne Roberts will co-develop the series with Headland.  On July 22nd, 2022, it was revealed that Amandla Stenberg had been cast in the series, but we still don’t know the role she’s going to play in the show.
