James Gunn Confirms Ben Affleck’s Batman Is Out Of The DCU

James Gunn has revealed that Ben Affleck is officially out as Batman in the DC Universe, which is very sad news, but there is some good news here also. This was revealed by Gunn during a press conference (via The Playlist).

Gunn and his DC Studios co-CEO, Peter Safran, were discussing what’s happening in the future of the DCU. They revealed the first part of their eight to ten year plan for the DC Universe. Part of that plan is going to be introducing a new Batman to the DCU.

Gunn revealed that they are working on a new movie called The Brave And The Bold which will feature Batman and Robin. Ben Affleck will not be playing Batman in that movie.

Here’s what James Gunn had to say about Ben Affleck’s time as Batman in the DCU coming to an end:

We’ve talked to Gal [Gadot]. She’s up for doing stuff. We’re not sure what we’re going to do with that. All I can tell you really right now is Henry [Cavill] and Ben [Affleck] are not part of this universe.

Gunn then added that there is room for Affleck to return to the DCU, but as a director. Here’s what he had to say on the matter (via SlashFilm):

And we’re working with Ben Affleck, who really wants to be [and] has been a part of our architectural team trying to bring things together, and he really wants to direct one of our projects. We’re excited for him doing that. But this is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son, who he didn’t know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life.

There are now questions about which DC Studios movie or TV show Ben Affleck could direct. A lot of people have already suggested Booster Gold, which was an HBO Max TV show that James Gunn announced they are working on behind the scenes.

There have also been rumours that Chris Pratt might be in line to play Booster Gold in the upcoming series. It’s exciting to think that Gunn is looking at directors like Affleck to helm upcoming DC projects.

There are so many characters that Affleck would be perfect for, and I think he has a lot of offer from behind the camera. He’s already made some incredible movies, such as The Town and Argo.

Personally, I would love to see him get a crack at making a Batman movie, but I’m not sure if that’s going to happen. That said, I cannot wait to see what he ends up making for DC Studios.

As for the DCU movies that Gunn announced the other day, he revealed that they are making a Superman: Legacy movie, a The Brave And The Bold film, a The Authority movie and a Swamp Thing horror movie.
