It’s been revealed that The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, is very much interested in directing Man Of Steel 2 for DC Studios, which I think would be an excellent choice. This all comes after an article posted on The Hollywood Reporter claimed that James Gunn and Peter Safran might not be moving ahead with the reported sequel after all.

However, the article also stated that The Flash director, Muschietti, was very much interested in helming a Superman sequel movie for DC Studios should the opportunity present itself. There has been a lot written about this Superman movie sequel. We were told that it was in active development and that Warner Bros Discovery was accepting pitches and scripts for the movie.

That said, we also heard that the studio and DC Studios’ new heads weren’t best pleased with the Superman movie scripts and pitches they received. It’s since been reported that one script came from Peaky Blinders creator, Steven Knight. However, Warner Bros didn’t think it was quite up to scratch, which is a shame because he’s a brilliant creator and writer.

Regarding Andy Muschietti’s interest in directing a sequel to Zack Snyder’s Superman film, here’s what The Hollywood Reporter had to say on the matter:

Andy Muschietti, who directed Flash, even expressed interest in sitting behind the camera for something that would have brought a tone similar to the hopeful and heroic colors of the 1978 movie directed by Richard Donner, considered a benchmark in comic book movies. In fact, the current leadership team at Warner Bros Pictures — Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy — did desire one more go-around of the Snyderverse heroes, possibly even having another Justice League movie with those actors.

Henry Cavill loves playing Superman

So, it seems as though there could still be life in a Henry Cavill-led Superman sequel. However, it seems as though James Gunn and Peter Safran have other plans for Superman. Gunn has said on Twitter that he’s a fan of Cavill’s Superman, and he loves the character. So, they might still be looking at bringing the actor back to play the role.

That said, The Hollywood Reporter’s article claimed that DC Studios was thinking of recasting the Justice League actors. However, Gunn then took to Twitter to reveal that what was in that report was true, but some of it wasn’t. So, we’re just going to have to wait and find out what their plans are for the future of the DC Universe.

Personally, I would love to see them bring Cavill back as Superman. I would also love to see them bring Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot back as Batman and Wonder Woman respectively. The issue with the SnyderVerse, for me at least, was never the casting. I actually think that those movies were perfectly cast. Even Ezra Miller is great as The Flash – personal issues aside.

The issue I always had with the SnyderVerse was that the movies were all a bit too long and the whole process of creating a Justice League movie felt too rushed. I also think that Zack Snyder doesn’t quite understand Superman. I know that many of you might disagree with that take, but it’s just my personal opinion as a huge fan of the comic book character.

Superman is never really portrayed in the comics as a God-like figure. He’s a symbol of hope, and I feel like Snyder’s version of the character never really got that part of him right. That said, it does seem as though Henry Cavill understands that about Superman since he revealed that he wants to portray a more joyful version of the character moving forward. Fingers crossed the heads at DC Studios let him do that!
