Jon Bernthal is returning as The Punisher in the upcoming Disney Plus Marvel Studios Daredevil: Born Again series. This means that our scoop from the 22nd of February, 2023, has just been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.

We had been previously informed by our sources close to the production that Jon Bernthal would be coming back as Frank Castle – aka The Punisher – in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. This series is going to see Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio return as their Marvel characters.

Charlie Cox last played Daredevil in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, and D’Onofrio played Kingpin in the Hawkeye series. It was revealed by Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige that the duo would be returning in Daredevil: Born Again.

So, it was revealed earlier by The Hollywood Reporter that Jon Bernthal would be returning as Frank Castle in the upcoming MCU series, Daredevil: Born Again. It was always going to be hard to recast Bernthal as The Punisher.

He’s perfect for the role. The only thing that might have prevented Bernthal from playing the role again might have been Marvel Studio’s unwillingness to do the character justice in the MCU.

Bernthal had revealed previously that he would only return to play the role if they didn’t want him to play a watered-down version of the character. So, it seems as though Marvel is looking to give us the version of the character that Bernthal wants to play, which is terrific news.

Unfortunately, it seems as though some of the other actors from Netflix’s The Punisher series won’t be returning in their respective roles. Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played classic supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, are not expected to return for the MCU Daredevil show. As it stands, it’s unclear whether those characters will be recast or not included in the story.

Jon Bernthal has been asked time and time again about a possible return as the violent vigilante, and he did say he’d be interested. He explained his position to The Hollywood Reporter and revealed that he would love to return as the character.

However, his return would only come if the character was handled the way he was initially drawn up.

So I was really grateful, respectful and weary of the places where that role took me and the world in which I had to live in. That being said, that’s where that character needs to be. It needs to be a level of darkness.

I think if there’s any let-up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character.

This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right.

We still don’t have an official release date for Daredevil: Born Again. However, we do have a release window. It was revealed that the series is expected to be released on Disney Plus in the spring of 2024.

The series will be 18 episodes long, making it the longest-ever Marvel series. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind the show.
