UPDATE: It was just announced by Netflix at their fan event Tudum that The Witcher Season 3 will be released in the summer of 2023. The streamer also revealed that the spinoff series The Witcher: Blood Origin would debut on December 25th later this year.

What’s going on with the show’s third season on Netflix? Is the third season happening, and if so, when will it be released on the streaming service? The Witcher has turned out to be one of Netflix’s biggest-ever shows. The show’s first two seasons did really well on the streaming platform.

It was revealed a while back that The Witcher Season 3 would be happening, and fans went wild! Fans couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen in the third season. I’m also certain that fans were excited to see Henry Cavill as Geralt Of Rivia.

There are plenty of fans out there that are asking when The Witcher Season 3’s potential release date on Netflix will be. So, without any further ado, let’s talk about the upcoming third season and its potential release date and any more The Witcher Season 3 news.

So, as it stands, the third season’s release date hasn’t yet been announced. However, we can look at when the show’s first and second seasons landed on Netflix. The first season landed on the streamer in December 2019, and the second season dropped in December 2021. So, with that in mind, it does seem as though there’s been a release strategy as far as new seasons of The Witcher’s concerned.

It’s been revealed that The Witcher’s prequel, Blood Origin, will be released in 2022. So, that means that the show’s third season might not be released until 2023. For reference, Season 2’s production was halted due to Covid-19 cases on set. Then Henry Cavil ended up injuring himself whilst filming the second season.

Production on Season 2 then began again in February 2020 and ran until April 2021. It was released a few months later, in December 2021. Filming on the third season has just ended recently. This was revealed a while back by Redanian Intelligence.

The third season was filmed in the UK, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. There were a number of issues whilst filming the third season. There were some positive COVID-19 cases on set, and rumours that Henry Cavill himself had contracted the virus. People have suggested that was why he didn’t turn up at San Diego Comic-Con this year to announce his return as Superman.

So, with all of this in mind, it does seem as though The Witcher Season 3 won’t be released until December 2023. It looks like The Witcher: Blood Origin will be released later this year in December 2022.

This means we’ll have to wait a while before the third season of The Witcher is released on Netflix. However, Netflix could end up pushing the third season’s release date forward if they’re struggling to get popular content on the streaming platform.

As far as The Witcher Season 3’s cast is concerned, we will see Henry Cavill return as Geralt Of Rivia. He’ll be joined by Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennifer. After the finale, we can expect the likes of Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), Lambert (Paul Bullion), and Coen (Yasen Atour) to show up in The Witcher Season 3. Then we might have the likes of Jaskier (Joey Batey), Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni), Cahir (Eamon Farren) all play an important part in Season 3.

It’s also been reported that the likes of Francesca (Mecia Simson), Filavandrel (Tom Canton), Triss (Anna Shaffer), Tissaia (MyAnna Buring), Dara (Wilson Mbomio), Istredd (Royce Pierreson), Vilgefortz (Mahesh Jadu), and Stregobor (Lars Mikkelsen) will also return for the third season.

Season 2 also introduced a bunch of new characters that I think will be coming back for Season 3. This includes the likes Dijkstra (Graham McTavish), Phillipa (Cassie Clare), Rience (Chris Fulton), and Lydia (Aisha Fabienne Ross). We also have Duny, now known as Nilfgaardian Emperor Emhyr (Bart Edwards) who’ll be playing a big part in Season 3.

It was revealed that Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Meng’er Zhang would play Milva. She’s described as “a human adopted by the dryads of Brokilon Forest.” She’s also been called a “fierce and talented huntress.”

Robbie Amell is playing “born fighter” Gallatin. He “leads an army of guerrilla Scoia’tael fighting on behalf of Nilfgaard.” Hugh Skinner is Radovid, “Royal playboy and younger brother to King Vizimir.” He “finds himself suddenly a man on the inside of the Redanian Intelligence.”

Christelle Elwin will play Mistle in the third season. Mistle is a member of The Rats. They’re “a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves – and sometimes the poor.” There is one actor who’s not sure whether they are returning for the third season or not.

Adjoa Andoh, who plays Nenneke, revealed that she’s still unsure whether she’ll return for the third season. “Yeah, I don’t know. We’ll see,” Andoh told the Radio Times. “The books are so huge. And they’ve gone so many different ways in the stories. Nenneke is in the books a lot. But it depends what they want to do with, you know, this version of it.”
