Keanu Reeves could be the lead star of Netflix’s live-action movie adaptation of Bioshock. A report from Giant Freakin Robot says that the John Wick actor is being sought after to play Jack from the original game.

Last year, we reported that Netflix had gotten the rights to make Bioshock. The title is based on a video game released back in 2007 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and the PC.

It featured a character you play named Jack, who goes into an underwater city called Rapture. Only to discover that the city has been devastated by the people who live in it.

Back in August 2022, it was reported that The Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence would be directing the film adaptation. Lawrence’s most recent project is Slumberland starring Jason Momoa. Most importantly, he directed Keanu Reeves’ Constantine back in 2005.

It’s possible that this is one of the reasons why the Netflix production is considering Reeves. Lawrence’s connection to the John Wick star could potentially give Bioshock their main lead.

But so far, nothing is set in stone. As the report from GFR says, they are looking. However, they have begun talking to him about the project.

Reeves has been in contact with the director recently because of Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to reboot Constantine with a sequel. So, with that said, it’s not far off that there is that possibility that Reeves might get enticed to be the lead of the Lawrence-led project.

The actor is not new to the gaming genre. He’s already starred in Cyberpunk 2077. And previously, he has been featured in games like John Wick: Hex, The Matrix: The Path of Neo, and Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure. He also participated in Unreal Engine’s The Matrix Awakens tech demo.

In the game, we don’t really see the main character since we play it in first-person mode. So, putting Keanu Reeves in the role of Jack won’t bother fans of the game.

It would be interesting to see him take these injections called plasmids and get powers from them. And I can’t wait to see a live-action version of Splicers, Big Daddy and Little Sisters.

I also want to see the movie adaptation to capture what I loved about the game. The ambience, the creepiness of the submerged damaged steampunk city, the transformed human splicers.

The game is a visual and psychological horror. Keanu has rarely done horror, but he doesn’t step away from it. I enjoyed his performance in the Devil’s Advocate.

Netflix has been investing a lot in game-related content. So far, they have been successful with some franchises like Castlevania, and The Cuphead Show. I reckon many think of Henry Cavill’s The Witcher too, because the video game The Witcher 3, which received many awarded.

And let’s not forget about Arcane, based on League of Legends, which won a ton of awards. Netflix is also developing Sony’s Horizon Zero Dawn which is under Steve Blackman.

While I am excited to see this made into a movie with Keanu Reeves, I am still a bit cautious about it. I love the game, and I love to see Keanu using plasmids.

But I do want to see the movie done well more than anything. And with Francis Lawrence at the helm, I am hoping that Bioshock turns out as such.
