Guy Ritchie’s latest spy action-comedy, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, might not get a US release in theatres. It’s been reported by JoBlo that the film is already shown in several countries, but its domestic US release is still unknown.

The filmmaker has done a lot of interesting and fun movies through the years. I’ve personally enjoyed some of his films like Robert Downey’s Sherlock Holmes and Henry Cavill’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He has a reputation for international blockbuster films. He’s even done Disney’s live-action version of Aladdin with Will Smith as the Genie. Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen was even a box office hit.

Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre premiered in Dubai and was released in other countries as well. It has different release dates for different countries from January 4 up until April 2023. Thus, it’s a surprise to know that it hasn’t gotten an official release date in the US.

The new movie was filmed back in 2021 and it even has an all-star cast. It stars a few of Ritchie’s favourite actors Jason Statham (Wrath of Man), Hugh Grant (The Gentlemen), Josh Harnet (Wrath of Man), and Bugzy Malone (The Gentlemen). The film also features Aubrey Plaza (The White Lotus), and Cary Elwes (Stranger Things).

In the movie, special agent Orson Fortune (Statham) and his team recruit the movie star Danny Francesco (Harnet). They need him to help infiltrate and stop the sale of a deadly weapon technology which is held by billionaire Greg Simmonds (Grant). The trailer itself looks promising and fun. I am personally looking forward to seeing the film myself.

The general public who has seen the film has already reviewed Ritchie’s latest as one of his best. Even citing that the film was worth the one-year wait. But as reviews go, it’s not perfect. There are also negative remarks saying that the film is a disappointment in comparison to The Gentlemen.

The movie was supposed to have been released back in January 2022. Unfortunately, the merging of STX Entertainment and Eros Media World plc delayed its theatrical release. STX Entertainment was later bought by Najafi Companies from Eros Media World.

For a time, Lionsgate considered releasing Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre for its theatrical release if they were able to buy STX Entertainment. But Lionsgate didn’t push through.

Hence, the year-long delay of the release of the film.

Obviously, Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre was not delayed because of the quality. The film was tangled up in mergers preventing it from getting a proper schedule for the US release. At the moment, we’re not even sure if a US release will even push through.

But not all is lost, though. There are reports that the film might get a streaming release. But just like the possibility of its theatrical release, we all just have to wait for an official announcement.

Guy Ritchie is currently working on a TV version of his 2019 film The Gentlemen. He’s also just finished The Covenant starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and has started working on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare with Henry Cavill. We’ve also reported that he is working on a sequel to the live-action version of Aladdin.

Do you think that the film should get a theatrical release in the US? Or should it go straight to streaming? Tell us what you think in the comments below.
