Netflix has released the very first footage for Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, and it looks pretty darn cool! The footage was released as part of a sizzle reel in which Netflix showed off footage from their upcoming movies to be released in 2023.
The video that Netflix released on their YouTube channel was called ‘Save The Dates | 2023 Films Preview’, and it gave us a little glimpse at Netflix’s upcoming movies such as Extraction 2, The Mother and Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon.
The video also revealed that Snyder’s next movie is going to be released on December 22nd, 2023. It certainly seems as though this is Netflix’s biggest movie of the year. It’s certainly billed like that.

The movie is going to be an epic space opera, and it’s being directed by Zack Snyder. He’s working off of a screenplay that Snyder co-wrote with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
The screenplay is based on a story Snyder created with Johnstad. The movie features an ensemble cast, including the likes of Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Ray Fisher, Djimon Hounsou, Jena Malone, Corey Stoll, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Cary Elwes, and Anthony Hopkins.
Rebel Moon is a co-production of Netflix, The Stone Quarry and Grand Electric. The movie is going to be released on Netflix, but it’s also going to get a limited theatrical release.
It was also revealed that a follow-up, Rebel Moon Part 2, is being shot with the film back-to-back. They are filming the sequel as we speak.
Speaking about the film’s future as a franchise, Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter the following:
My hope is that this also becomes a massive IP and a universe that can be built out.
The movie’s release date on Netflix has been revealed
Here’s the movie’s plot synopsis, courtesy of Netflix:
A peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Balisarius. The desperate civilians dispatch Kora, a young woman who has a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them challenge the regent.
Snyder actually pitched the movie to Lucasfilm back in the day. They ended up passing on the project, and it’s been reported that the reason they passed on it was due to the fact that the project’s themes were a bit too adult for what Lucasfilm was looking for in their Star Wars movies.
