It’s been revealed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson has agreed to join Robert Eggers’ upcoming Nosferatu remake, which I think is a great bit of casting. This new Nosferatu movie is easily becoming my most anticipated movie of 2024, which is when it’s slated to be released.

Robert Eggers has been adding stars to his upcoming remake of Nosferatu. Eggers is going to be writing and directing the movie, and he’s managed to put together a pretty incredible cast for the movie.

The movie is going to star the likes of Bill Skarsgård and Lily Rose-Depp. They were the first two actors to join the movie. It was then revealed that Nicolas Hoult would be joining the movie.

That pretty big announcement was followed up by the huge news that Willem Dafoe would also be joining the film, which is very interesting indeed. Dafoe has worked with Eggers twice before, on The Northman and The Lighthouse.

Focus announced via a press release (via Gizmodo) that the film’s main cast also features Aaron Taylor-Johnson. We last saw Taylor-Johnson in last year’sBullet Train, and he’s going to be the star in Sony Pictures’ Kraven the Hunter.

However, Taylor-Johnson’s wasn’t the only name that was announced as joining the movie’s cast. It was revealed that Ralph Ineson and Simon McBurney would also be joining the movie’s cast.

Ineson played the titular Green Knight in the 2021 fantasy film, while McBurney currently stars as Runyan Millworthy in Prime Video’s Carnival Row. As far as who they’re playing in Nosferatu, the roles of all three actors are currently under wraps, so we have no idea which roles they’re going to play in the movie.

When will the movie be released?

In that same release, Focus also revealed that the film was currently in production in Prague in the Czech Republic. Skarsgård will play the titular vampire, and Rose will portray Ellen Hunter.

This will be the second time that Eggers has adapted a movie from a previous work. The Northman was based mainly on Danish historian Saxo Grammaticus’ legend of Amleth. (Grammaticus’ legend also served as the inspiration for Shakespeare’s Hamlet.)

Eggers has made it very clear over the years of his desire to remake the 1922 horror film, which itself is loosely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The earliest logline describes his take on the material as a “reimagining….a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.”

Who could he be playing in the movie?

We still don’t know which role Taylor-Johnson has agreed to play, so I can’t really answer that question just yet. However, we do know that he won’t be playing Nosferatu in the movie, as that role is being played by Bill Skarsgård.

It’s going to be really interesting to see how this movie comes together. There’s no official release date for Nosferatu yet. However, we have it on good authority that the movie is being planned for a 2024 release.
