Fans of the hit Netflix series Warrior Nun are eagerly awaiting news of a third season. However, the future of the show is currently uncertain. On December 13th, 2022, it was announced that Netflix had decided not to renew the series for a third season.

Simon Berry announced via his Twitter account that Netflix will not be renewing Warrior Nun for a third season. He said:

I’ve just found out that @netflix will not be renewing #WarriorNun – my sincere appreciation to all the fans who worked so hard to bring awareness to this series, and for the love you showed me, the cast and the whole production team. It was a privilege to be a part of this.

The news of this cancellation then sparked a pretty vocal movement on social media, in which fans of the show demanded that Netflix ‘corrects their mistake’. Warrior Nun ended up trending on the social media platform, and it was even reported that the show saw an uptick in watch hours after the announcement of its cancellation was made.

Fans are also wondering about the cast of a potential third season. It is likely that many of the main cast members would return, but it is not clear if there would be any new additions.

Warrior Nun stars Alba Baptista in the lead role of Ava Silva, so it’s safe to assume she’ll be back for season three if it gets picked up elsewhere.

But who will be joining her? Here’s a list of the actors who could return for a third season:

• Thekla Reuten as Jillian Salvius
• Lorena Andrea as Sister Lilith
• Kristina Tonteri-Young as Sister Beatrice
• Tristan Ulloa as Father Vincent
• Sylvia De Fanti as Mother Superior

One cast member who definitely won’t be returning is Toya Turner. At the beginning of the show’s second season, we learn that Shotgun Mary, is just “gone” after Adriel’s forces overwhelmed her at the end the show’s first season.

During an interview with Screen Rant, showrunner Simon Barry revealed the reason behind the character’s departure. He revealed that Shotgun Mary was supposed to return but then Turner left, throwing this plot line off balance:

Unfortunately, at the beginning of season two’s filming, Toya had to leave the show for personal reasons. We had to very quickly retool the show to accommodate that. […] It was a very challenging puzzle. But we figured it out in a way that I think honors Shotgun Mary’s character and also sets up the new characters that emerge in season two.

Barry then added:

I’m hoping it plays out well. It’s always awkward when it’s not the plan, right? We did not plan this, but we had to sort of adjust on the fly.

There were also no plans to recast Shotgun Mary at the time either. Barry explained:

We didn’t want to recast her because I think it’s too iconic a character. What we had to do is figure out a way to tie in what had happened at the end of season 1 that didn’t feel too clunky and didn’t feel too slapped on.

It is currently unknown when a third season of Warrior Nun would be released. If the show is picked up by another streaming platform, it could be several months or even a year before a new season is available.

It all depends on if (hopefully, when) another streaming platform comes in to save the show. Given the show’s huge popularity online, it seems as though it might be a smart move to save the show.

The platform and company that might be the most interested in picking up the show could be Amazon. Prime Video would be a really good place for the show to live on, and I’m sure that fans would flock to the streaming platform to watch the third season.

We’re going to have to wait and see what happens on that front. But, don’t lose hope, Warrior Nun fans! Never lose hope!
