It’s been revealed that Amazon has delayed The Wheel Of Time Season 2’s release date because of their upcoming Lord Of The Ring series. This was revealed by Amazon’s head of global TV Vernon Sanders during an interview with TV Line.

Here is what Vernon Sanders had to say about The Wheel Of Time Season 2’s release date during the interview:

We’re still talking about it. Rafe and his team just sent us their first cuts of the first episodes of Season 2, and I cannot wait for the audience to see what we have in store.

He was then asked about Lord Of The Rings’ release date (September 2nd, 2022) and whether it might push The Wheel Of Time Season 2’s release date:

We are going to be really thoughtful about how we release these shows. In our minds, they are very different shows, but we are cognizant of our genre fans, and we are excited about the collection of content we have — those two, along with The Expanse and The Boys, Carnival Row is coming back, we have a fantastic show with [Westworld creators] Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy called The Peripheral…. We are very excited about the future.

So, it sounds like Amazon has a lot of great sci-fi and fantasy shows coming out in 2022, and they’re going to have to do some serious juggling with regards to their release dates in 2022. It’s not a bad problem to have.

It’s actually a really good one. However, it does mean that we might have to wait a few more months than we would have liked for The Wheel Of Time Season 2.

The second season of the show’s already filming, and they’re already working on editing the first few episodes of Season 2. This means that they should be done with Season 2 relatively soon.

As for Amazon’s next big show, it looks like their upcoming Lord Of The Rings show is going to be a giant hit for the streaming platform. It was a big deal when Amazon got the rights to the franchise.

They started working on the series pretty quickly, and it could end up becoming as big – if not bigger – as HBO’s Game Of Thrones. Wouldn’t that be something?

So.. the guy from Amazon said, we are going to be thoughtful and that we assumes means it was delayed? Did I miss any actual news or confirmation being said in this article?

Delaying ‘The Wheel of Time’ second season release is a sign of bad management or executive decision making. What gives Rake?

I’ve been waiting decades for the wheel of time. I rather see it come out on time and don’t care about the others. Lord of the rings though exciting to hear, I’ve read every book written by Tolkien and can say not one movie or story put together was ever better than my imagination. The Wheel Of Time if done right will be 10 times better than GOT. They rushed the last season and really screwed up the ending. I was not happy with the ending!!

If we are really lucky they will not make a season 2 and they will redo season 1 with someone who actually READ the books. Recast the characters so they look like their descriptions. Perrin with a throw away wife! Whose ridiculous idea was thst?!

Season 1 of The Wheel of Time was disappointing to say the least…
The show was just not strong enough to make an impact from Episode 1 to be honest
If Season 2 runs along at the same slow pace then I for one won’t be watching…

I was appalled at the deviations from the book series. I also did not find several of the castings credible. I watched until the end of the first season hoping it would improve. It didn’t. I won’t be watching any more.

Delaying the publication of books is unacceptable (though at least there is sometimes a valid reason).
Delaying video adaptations is NEVER acceptable. Doing so for spurious reasons risks damage — delaying WOT to fit with LOTR release dates (which presumably then results in delay to subsequent releases of both series) risks losing audience for both.

The simple fact that neither of these series is close enough to the source material simply adds to the issue.

That in turn damages the reputation of the company to produce acceptable quality products in a reasonable time frame, further damaging any interest in future products (in all genres)
