The Wheel Of Time Season 2 Potential Release Date, Cast & Story

The first season of The Wheel Of Time has just been released on Amazon Prime Video and it’s been taking the streaming platform by storm, but what about Season 2? OK, when I say ‘what about Season 2’, I mean what about The Wheel Of Time’s second season: is it happening?

If so, when will the second season of this new hit show for Amazon Prime Video be released, and who will star in it? Also, what will happen in the second season?

These are all questions that fans of the show would love to have answered, however, the answers aren’t out there (even though fans of The X Files will say that the truth is out there!).

Is The Wheel Of Time Season 2 happening?

Well, I suppose the first thing we should reveal is that The Wheel Of Time Season 2 is already filming. In fact, Amazon recently revealed that they are halfway through filming on the second season.

The second season of The Wheel Of Time started production in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, back in July, and it looks like the season will see a lot of familiar faces returning. However, one actor who will not be returning for this second season is Barney Harris.

He played Mat Cauthon in Season 1 and he will be replaced by Dónal Finn. It wasn’t revealed why they decided to change the actor.

The first season of this new Amazon show has been doing pretty well. It’s actually the most-watched series premiere of the year, and one of the top five series launches of all time for Prime Video, with the series being streamed “tens of millions of times” in its first three days.

This success has also seen an uptick in the interest in the novel series that the show is based on. The first novel in the Wheel of Time series, The Eye of the World, is #14 on Amazon’s Most Read Fiction chart this week.

“We are elated by the strong debut of The Wheel of Time, one of our most-watched series premieres of all time,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios (via Collider).

“It’s a testament to everyone involved in the series – the incredible cast, led by Rosamund Pike, and our showrunner Rafe Judkins, and the entire team, who took viewers on a journey into a visually stunning world populated with diverse characters and cultures. It’s unlike any other fantasy series, and our customers all over the world are responding.”

The show was renewed for a second season back in May and follows the story of Moiraine, who is a member of the Aes Sedai, an all-female organization in a world where only certain women can wield its magic.

Given that the series started filming quite some time ago, I wouldn’t be surprised to see The Wheel Of Time Season 2 landing on Amazon Prime Video towards the beginning of 2021. However, given that episodes are dropping weekly, they might want to hold off on releasing Season 2 until the end of next year.

As for the books that the show is based on, the series consists of 14 volumes and was written by Robert Jordan until his death in 2007. Fellow fantasy writer Brandon Sanderson went on to finish the series with the final book, A Memory of Light, which was released in 2013.

The series is highly regarded by both fans and critics, with many considering it a modern classic in the fantasy genre. Sanderson is acting as consulting producer on the show alongside Harriet McDougal, with Rafe Judkins serving as showrunner.

Larry Mondragon and Rick Selvage of Red Eagle Entertainment, Ted Field and Mike Weber of Radar Pictures, Darren LemkeMarigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz act as executive producers.

The first season of Wheel of Time is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, with new episodes dropping every Friday. Here’s the show’s official plot synopsis:

‘The Wheel of Time’ is one of the most popular and enduring fantasy series of all time, with more than 90 million books sold. Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine (Pike), a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

The second season of The Wheel Of Time will star Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski and Marcus Rutherford.

The season was OK until the final episode, when it appears the director left the story behind, and went ff on his own tangent. I lost a lot of my interest at that point. I have read the entire 14 volume pus, many of the volumes multiple times. The show’s producers and director have apparently left the reservation, deciding to do their own thing. I may watch to se how and if they bring the story back to what is actually in the plot, and what contortions will be required to do so, or if they will just continue to rewrite the damn thing into some bizarre shadow of Jordan’s epic work.
