Nicolas Cage Reportedly Playing A Superman Variant In The Flash

It’s been reported that Nicolas Cage can be seen as a Superman variant in the upcoming DC film, The Flash.

It’s no secret now that Cage was originally set to be Superman back in the 1990s. He was supposed to star in Tim Burton’s take on the Man of Steel in the film Superman Lives. The film never came to fruition, but the proof is all in the pictures with Cage doing costume fittings. There is even a documentary titled The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? Which focuses on the development of the ill-fated film.

While the Face Off actor didn’t get the chance to make the film, it does seem that he might get another chance to be the Man of Steel the second time around. This time, in the DC Cinematic Universe.

Giant Freakin Robot reports that The Flash would see Cage as Superman. To what extent would this be? His appearance is said to be seen in a recent test screening.

Ezra Miller’s film has already shown that the Flash has travelled back in time to save his own mother. The film borrows heavily from the comic book Flashpoint which has been adapted for TV and animated movies.

His actions inadvertently changed history as we see that Superman doesn’t exist, and Batman is now Michael Keaton instead of Ben Affleck.

The movie also recreates scenes from Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel but without Henry Cavill’s Superman, which is why the heroes look for Supergirl, played by Sasha Calle.

Since we’ll be seeing that Ezra Miller’s character will be traversing various realities or universes, allowing him to catch glimpses of alternate versions of the DC Universe. Among them, he is said to encounter Superman, but rather than the Henry Cavill portrayal, he will witness the Nicolas Cage version.

At the moment, it seems that the scene itself would be very quick. It is likely that they will be using footage from Cage’s screen tests, if ever. But we don’t really know until we see the film. It would be nice to know that Cage actually filmed scenes for The Flash. At the same time, even if it was seen in the screen test, there is also a chance that the scene could be cut. Then again, it would be a missed opportunity.

This is not the only time Cage has returned to be the Man of Steel. He did provide Superman’s voice in Teen Titans Go! To The Movies in 2018.

Cage is not the only one being rumoured to show up in The Flash. It is said that Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash in The CW TV series is also showing up. Ezra Miller also did a cameo in the TV series in the Crisis on Infinite Earths special.

Christopher Reeve and Adam West, who have played Superman and Batman, respectively are said to also have a quick cameo in the film.

There are also rumours that George Clooney might be in the film too, as another Batman variant from the Joel Schumacher film.

Cage has played other superheroes too, such as Spider-Man Noir in Spider-Man: Into The SpiderVerse, Ghost Rider in two films (Ghost Rider and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance), and Big Daddy in Kick-Ass.
