Jon Bernthal has started his training to return as The Punisher for his upcoming appearance in Disney Plus’ Marvel Studios series Daredevil: Born Again.

Not long ago, Bernthal revealed that he would be reprising his role as Frank Castle which he originally played in Netflix’s second season of Daredevil. This was exciting news, especially because he did the character so well back then.

His appearance was popular enough that it sparked Netflix to create a spin-off series on top of the other projects they were working on which included Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. The Punisher lasted two seasons with 26 episodes before it was cancelled. The Punisher was not the only one cancelled, the entire Marvel lineup under Netflix was.

A few days ago rapper boxer Slink Proper posted a video on Instagram of him training with Jon Bernthal.

Included with the video, Slink Proper also added pictures of The Punisher promotional images from Netflix. He said:

How many ppl can say they’ve held pads for
@thepunisher himself ? AkA @jonnybernthal
Also known as Shane walsh Mr.Take yo chick durring an apocalypse !

PSA
Don’t put him in none of thoes @celebrityboxing1 matches b4 he tko sombody and end they actin career 💪🏿💪🏿👊🏿 HE GOT HANDS !

It seems like Slink Proper is also a fan himself, as he mentioned Bernthal as Shane Walsh. Bernthal played the role of Walsh for two seasons of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead.

So far we haven’t seen any images of Bernthal on the set of Daredevil: Born Again, but his training could be the reason why.

The video also shows that Bernthal hasn’t gotten a haircut or a shave even. Is it possible that this is the new look for The Punisher? When he made the announcement that he’ll be returning, he had the same look as the one he had in the series. So, it seems that Bernthal has been growing a bit of hair since then.

The new upcoming series is the longest being made by Marvel Studios. While most shows have six episodes, some of them have nine. Daredevil: Born Again will be set to have 18 episodes. There are rumours that the show will even set the return of other Netflix stars like Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones.

No one outside the production really knows what exact timeline the new series is set in. Many are even worried because Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson haven’t announced that they’ll be returning as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. There are fears that they would be recast, considering they worked so well in the Netflix series. However, their absence could mean that the new series is likely taking place during the Blip.

While Vincent D’Onofrio and Jon Bernthal are set to reprise their roles, there is one so far that has been reported to be recast. Sandrine Holt (Terminator: Genisys, 24) is reported to play Vanessa Fisk. The character was initially played by Ayelet Zurer (Angels and Demons, Man of Steel) in the Netflix Daredevil series.

Michael Gandolfini (The Deuce), Margarita Levieva (The Acolyte), Nikki M. James (Proven Innocent), Michael Gaston (A Mouthful of Air) and Arty Froushan (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) are all cast in the show, but their roles haven’t been announced.

With Daredevil: Born Again now in full swing into production, we are excited to see all the actors reprise their roles. We’ve missed them for many years now. It’s a long time coming.
