If you’re looking forward to Henry Cavill’s last run as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, online talks reveal his final scene in the upcoming Season 3. It’s really happening, and the end of Cavill’s time as Geralt is fast approaching.

Season 3 of The Witcher series on Netflix arrives this year, and as Cavill himself has officially announced, it is to be his last season as Ciri’s father-she-never-had. Season 2 ended with the trio of Geralt, Ciri and Yennifer becoming the unconventional family, even by The Continent’s standards.

Returning for the third season are, of course, Freya Allan as Ciri and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. More actors are expected to reprise their roles for the upcoming season. As the nature of news during these times, especially news released on the first of April, we will have to take the following details with a grain of salt. Although this news may be highly plausible, there is still a chance that it is not what it seems to be.

Nevertheless, it is another indication that the series is deviating from the original literary works that it may truly be more advisable for Cavill to bid his witcher character goodbye.

According to Redanian Intelligence, Henry Cavill’s last scenes in The Witcher have been revealed. The scene described also coincides with what creator author Andrzej Sapkowski wrote in his third novel in the Witcher Saga, Baptismal of Fire.

In the book, Geralt and his companions are attacked by the Hunt. During the encounter, Geralt’s medallion is struck by a blast of magic, causing it to melt and lose its magical powers. This event is a significant moment in the book, as Geralt’s medallion had been a symbol of his identity as a witcher and his connection to the magical world.

Apparently, in the post, a supporting character would loudly call to Geralt, saying “Witcher!” to which Henry Cavill’s Geralt will respond:

No, no more.

Could Season Three of The Witcher include Geralt fighting the Hunt? Could it be that because he lost his medallion and his magical powers, he considered himself no longer a witcher?

This reminds me of the arc Yennifer had to go through in Season 2, where she lost her Chaos. She defined herself through that special ability. And when she lost it, she was lost as a person. She felt everything was pointless and that she was useless.

In the books, Geralt never did renounce himself being a witcher. It is an integral part of his character. Despite his seemingly cold and rigid demeanour to which some characters comment that he is aloof and unaffected to a point that is hurtful, he fully embraces himself as a witcher.

Another hint of what is to come is showrunner Lauren Hissrich’s interview with Entertainment Weekly, where she said, Season 3 is the closest they have adapted from the books. In her words:

Henry has given so much to the show and so we want to honor that appropriately. What is so interesting is that season 3, to me, is the closest thing that we’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books.

…Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri. And to me, it’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that. Geralt has a new mission in mind when we come back to him in season 4. He’s a slightly different Geralt than we expected. Now, by the way, that’s an understatement.

By Hissrich’s description, Season 3 might really still follow the key events of Sapkowski’s third book. Perhaps even some events that will happen within the fourth, which is The Tower of the Swallow.

Fans are already aware that the reason Cavill let go of the character for succeeding seasons is because the showrunner and writers are deviating from the original story. Something Cavill is not comfortable attaching his name to.

And so, if this final scene is to really happen in The Witcher Season 3 on Netflix, we will see Henry Cavill saying he is a witcher no more. Thus, in the series, Geralt will be echoing what he has said as his real self.
