Hugh Jackman Could Play Multiple Wolverine Variants In Deadpool 3

It seems as though Hugh Jackman might have let it slip that he’s going to be playing multiple variants of Wolverine in the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie. This comes after it was revealed that the Australian actor is going to be returning to the role.

I genuinely believe that the reveal Jackman is coming back to play Wolverine – aka Logan – in Deadpool 3 was the best pop culture news from last year. It was also revealed in the best possible fashion.

Ryan Reynolds posted a video in which he talked about the issues he’s been having trying to come up with a good idea for the third Deadpool movie. Towards the end of the video, Reynolds reveals that there was only one thing he could think of doing, and that was when he asked the room whether Hugh would want to come back to play Wolverine.

Behind Reynolds, who was sitting on the sofa, you could see Jackman walking up the stairs, and he says, “Yeah, sure, Ryan”, whilst eating an apple. It was perfect and got me, and I think many other people, very excited to see this movie.

Well, now, it seems as though Jackman has revealed that he could be playing multiple versions of Wolverine in the movie. He revealed this during an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien. Here’s what he had to say when he was asked about the upcoming Marvel movie:

Ryan and I have been friends for twenty years; we have a lot of fun together. We are filming this summer. That’s why I’m so happy to be in Paris right now and to be able to enjoy French gastronomy. Because very soon, I’m going to have to put myself on a strict diet to remake my Wolverine body: steamed chicken and broccoli!

Jackman then went on to describe his Marvel return as a “dual role,” suggesting that this Wolverine could be a variant. He previously played the character and his feral clone in Logan.

Moreover, during a previous appearance on the Empire Film Podcast, Jackman revealed Wolverine and Deadpool’s dynamic is hate. That’s going to be an interesting dynamic to watch on-screen in the movie. Here’s what Jackman had to say on the matter:

How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero. We’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective. [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.

How come Wolverine’s alive in Deadpool 3…?

One question many of you might have regarding Wolverin’es return in Deadpool 3 is who on Earth could it happen considering the fact that he died at the end of Logan. Well, it seems as though Jackman, Reynold and the movie’s writers have thought about that.

During an interview on The Jess Cagle Show Jackman revealed that his return will be possible thanks to “this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines.” He’s, of course, talking about the Multiverse. Jackman continued:

Now we can go back because, you know, it’s science. So I don’t have to screw with the Logan timeline, which was important to me. And I think probably to the fans, too.

Deadpool 3 is slated for release in cinemas in the United States on November 8th, 2024.
