A Grand Admiral Thrawn Origins Movie Reportedly In Development

This is an interesting rumour. It’s being rumoured (I’ll give you one guess by whom), that Disney and Lucasfilm are planning a Grand Admiral Thrawn origins movie. This rumour comes from, of course, Daniel Richtman’s Patreon page.

This is a rumour that I’m going to be honest, I’m not very sure about. There has been a lot written about Grand Admiral Thrawn and the reason is because he was name-dropped by Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian Season 2.

We were told by our sources that Lars Mikkelsen is in talks to play the role in live-action. He voiced the role in Star Wars: Rebels, and would make an excellent choice to play the role in The Mandalorian and the Ahsoka Tano spinoff show.

A Grand Admiral Thrawn origins movie might be in the works over at Lucasfilm

The idea of a Grand Admiral Thrawn origins movie is interesting. That said, I’ve read the books by Timothy Zahn, and even though I enjoyed them, I do not think they’d make for a good movie.

His origins are explored in those books, however, I supposed the movie could go even further back, to the time he was a Chiss male officer of the Chiss Ascendancy. The thing is, I don’t think they’d do that and I’m not sure whether audiences would be interested in seeing that. They want to see what happened to Thrawn after Star Wars: Rebels, and we’re going to see that in The Mandalorian and the Ahsoka Tano show.
