It’s being reported that Lucasfilm and Disney are working on a new Star Wars live-action project – a live-action adaptation of Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire.

This report comes to us from Giant Freakin Robot.

Now, I must warn you to take this report with a slight pinch of salt and maybe some pepper also.

I’ve been trying to confirm whether this is the case, but I haven’t been able to and Disney and Lucasfilm declined to comment on the story.

However, it seems like something that Disney and Lucasfilm might be interested in adapting.

According to the report, this project could either end up being a movie of a TV show.

Do we need a Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire live-action adaptation?

However, I must say that their report is fairly thin on any real details apart from saying that a live-action project based on Star Wars: Shadows Of The Empire is “in development”.

This could mean that this project is in its very early stages of development, therefore, it could be a while before we end up seeing it or ever hearing about it officially.

But, what is this Shadows Of The Empire that we speak of?

Well, it was originally released as a novel, and it was supposed to bridge the gap between Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi.

There were also some comic books that was released afterwards which adapted the storyline for the medium, as well as a video game which was released on the Nintendo 64.

The book’s story picks up right after the end of the second Star Wars film.

The begins by following two different storylines: that of Princess Leia, Chewbacca and Lando, and the other follows Luke Skywalker.

Leia, Chewie and Lando are working together to try and save Han Solo from Boba Fett’s ship.

Meanwhile, Luke returns to Tatooine to try and deal with Jaba The Hutt’s crew and he’s also in hiding from Darth Vader – who’s searching the galaxy far and wide for his son.

It would be interesting to see this storyline in live-action, but I don’t think it would be the best idea.

I’ve made it very clear here on Small Screen and on our podcast, Small Screen Stories, that I think Disney and Lucasfilm needs to move away from the Star Wars ‘legacy’ characters.

They need to tell new stories and bring in new ideas into the Star Wars universe.

If you’re interested in this Shadows Of The Empire story, you can always read the book, the comics and play the video game.
