Batman Beyond Film Coming To HBO Max Starring Michael Keaton (UPDATED)

Updated below with Timothée Chalamet’s representatives statement.

It’s been reported to us by sources who claim to have close links to WarnerMedia that both Timothée Chalamet and Michael Keaton are now in talks to star in a Batman Beyond film for HBO Max. Full disclosure, I had been told that this Batman Beyond project was going to be a TV show, however, it seems as though that information might not have been quite right.

According to my sources, one of which did previously tell me that Keaton was in talks to star in a Batman Beyond series on HBO Max, they’re now making this project a movie which will be released on HBO Max. It could end up being one of the two DC Comics movies a year which are slated for release solely on the streaming service. This was mentioned by Walter Hamada during his interview with The New York Times.

Now, onto what my sources told me about his Batman Beyond project. The first source, who I’ve worked with previously and have been able to verify their identity, informed me that both Timothée Chalamet and Michael Keaton are close to agreeing to be in this HBO Max Batman Beyond film. Here’s what they told me:

Chalamet and Keaton are close to signing on the dotted line. They have been in talks to star in what will be a Batman Beyond feature-length movie, not a TV show like I previously told you. This Batman Beyond film will be released straight to HBO Max and will be part of the DCEU.

This information was then corroborated by a number of different sources – some of whom I contacted directly, others who came to me independently. Here’s what one of them who agreed to be directly quoted had to say about the project:

As it stands, Batman Beyond will actually be a film, not a TV show. It’ll be coming to HBO Max – one of their two DC Comics movies a year – and it’s looking like both Keaton and Chalamet will be starring in it. Keaton will be back as Bruce Wayne and Chalamet is being lined up to play Terry McGinnis. Still early days, however, but it’s looking more and more nailed on with every passing minute.

So, my source stated above, things can still change. However, as it stands, it seems as though Batman Beyond is coming, and it’ll be a movie – not a TV show. Hamada was seemingly referring to this sort of film when he mentioned in that interview with The New York Times, that there would be two DC Comics movies coming to HBO Max a year. Other DC Comics films people have been mentioning have been the Batgirl and Static Shock movies, which look set to also be released straight to the streaming service.

Interestingly enough, this project was hinted at in a recent article over on Geekosity. When I went to go write the article after my sources contacted me, Mikey Sutton over at Geekosity ran something somewhat similar. In his article, Sutton wrote the following:

First of all, the new Keaton Dark Knight films being planned are true; however, he won’t really be the star. Rather, it’s the Batman Beyond property that I broke on June 24 on the Lords of the Longbox website. At the time, the live-action Batman Beyond was only going to be on HBO Max; however, Warner Bros. eventually felt that this was too commercially huge to stay put on their streaming network.

It seems as though DC Films and in particular, Walter Hamada, are very keen on developing these sorts of properties moving forward, which I think is interesting. It’s also fascinating that they are opting to adapt the Batman Beyond animated series for Keaton, which is something fans have been asking for for quite some time now. The Batman Beyond animated series is very popular with the DC Comics fans, and it was also revealed that the series was coming to HBO Max along with Batman: The Animated Series. There are also rumours that Warner Bros. Animation and DC Comics might be working on a follow up to Batman: The Animated Series.

UPDATE: Timothée Chalamet’s representatives have reached out to us about our report. Here is their statement:

None of it is accurate as it relates to Timothée. Per Chalamet’s representative, this story is not true.

This isn’t the first time we’ve been contacted with a denial and it certainly won’t be the last. With that said, we stick by our sources, as always. We appreciate Chalamet’s reps contacting us. We asked for a statement and the above quote is what we were provided.
