It’s official, ladies and gentlemen: Twitter has once again proven to be a reliable source of breaking news, at least when it comes to superhero movie casting rumours. The latest bombshell dropped on the social media platform is none other than the announcement that Adam Driver will be donning the white lab coat and stretching his acting abilities (and limbs) to portray the elastic genius, Reed Richards, in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

The news first broke on Twitter, with user @MyTimeToShineH sharing the scoop that Driver had accepted the coveted role. It didn’t take long for reputable outlets like SuperHeroHype, ComicBookMovie, Forbes, and Inside The Magic to confirm the news.

Best known for his powerful portrayal of Kylo Ren in the latest Star Wars trilogy, Driver’s casting as the super-stretchy scientist and leader of the Fantastic Four comes as a pleasant surprise to many fans. With his remarkable acting chops and brooding intensity, we can’t wait to see how Driver brings a fresh take to the iconic character.

The casting choice is also a fantastic (pun intended) opportunity for Driver to showcase his range, as he transitions from a conflicted villain in a galaxy far, far away to a brilliant scientist and family man here on Earth. The upcoming Fantastic Four film is set to be part of the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and with the recent success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, expectations are high for the latest superhero team to hit the big screen.

While Driver’s casting as Reed Richards is now all but confirmed, the rest of the Fantastic Four have yet to be officially announced. Naturally, the rumour mill has been working overtime to speculate on who could be taking on the roles of Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm.

One name that has been consistently linked with the role of Sue Storm, also known as the Invisible Woman, is Emily Blunt. Fans have long clamoured for Blunt to join the MCU, and it’s not difficult to see why. With her incredible acting range and undeniable charisma, Blunt could easily bring the strength and vulnerability required for the role.

There have also been claims that the likes of Jodie Comer, Vanessa Kirby, Margot Robbie and Mila Kunis have all been considered for the role. However, recent reports have suggested that Marvel Studios is very keen on getting Margot Robbie to play the role in the upcoming picture.

For the fiery hothead Johnny Storm, also known as the Human Torch, names like Taron Egerton and Dacre Montgomery have been thrown into the mix. Both actors possess the charm and energy needed to bring the hot-headed hero to life. Egerton has already proven himself capable of carrying a franchise with the Kingsman series, while Montgomery is best known for his roles in Stranger Things and Power Rangers.

As for the lovable and strong-hearted Ben Grimm, aka the Thing, some fans are hoping for a reunion between Adam Driver and his Star Wars co-star John Boyega. Boyega’s impressive performances as Finn in the Star Wars trilogy, as well as his leading role in Attack the Block, demonstrate his ability to bring depth and humanity to his characters. Additionally, his recent voice work in the animated series Lamput highlights his versatility, which could lend itself well to portraying the lovable, rock-skinned powerhouse.

Of course, these are all just rumours and speculation at this point. Marvel Studios has yet to make any official announcements regarding the remaining members of the Fantastic Four. However, with the revelation of Adam Driver’s casting as Reed Richards, we can only hope that the rest of the cast will be just as inspired and exciting.

The upcoming Fantastic Four film will be directed by WandaVision director, Matt Shakman. He took over after the movie’s original director, Jon Watts, the creative mind behind the recent Spider-Man trilogy, which featured Tom Holland as the web-slinging hero, left the project due to “creative differences”. With Shakman at the helm, fans can expect a fresh and thrilling adaptation of Marvel’s first family, hopefully leaving the less-than-stellar previous Fantastic Four adaptations in the dust.

As we eagerly await further casting news and production updates, one thing is certain: the anticipation for this latest addition to the MCU is palpable. With Adam Driver leading the way as Reed Richards, the sky is truly the limit for Marvel’s first family of superheroes.
