Grant Gustin Open To Returning As The Flash After The Show’s Finale

Like Stephen Amell for his The Flash finale season, Grant Gustin is open to reprising his role as Barry Allen in future projects if the idea is right. The longest running superhero show on television is soon coming to a halt in its 13-episode final season.

First appearing in Amell’s Arrow Season 2 episode 8 titled The Scientist, Gustin’s Barry Allen helped the Arrow on a case and even saved Oliver Queen’s life. Later he becomes The Flash with a series all on his own. Well, with his own team that is.

The team is strong as ever and back for the final season that started February 8 this year. The final four episodes which started May 3 continuing to May 10, 17 and 24 will wrap up the story of the fastest man alive. With the banner episode title A New World, team Flash will have to save the timeline once more and this time for good.

Season 9 of The Flash series airs at The CW. The new episodes can also be watched via The CW app for free the day after the episode airs.

If you are looking to watch previous seasons to brush up your speedster memory, Seasons 1-8 are available to stream on Netflix including the rest of the Arrowverse.

It is the best way to find the “crossover” episodes it has with Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Superman and Lois and other series developed by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Geoff Johns, Ali Adler, Phil Klemmer, Salim Akil, Caroline Dries and Todd Helbing.

After season 9, DC Studios will still have Superman and Lois on television. However, since that series is officially set in an alternate universe, the finale season of Grant Gustin’s The Flash will be the end of the Arrowverse.

It is why a lot of previous characters are turning up in the season. One particularly much-awaited return is Amell’s Green Arrow. And like Amell, Gustin has expressed that even when his series would end, he’d always be open to returning to the role. But it has a specific caveat according to the decade-long speedster.

Grant Gustin could return as The Flash Only If…

US Magazine got to talk to Gustin about the series that is nearing its conclusion this month. He spoke about the different ways he is connected to the character and his relationship with fellow actors. Interestingly, he also talks about not actually closing the door for the character he has been for the past several years.

When asked if he would be open to portraying Barry Allen aka The Flash again in the future, Grant Gustin replied:

I can’t wrap my head around it right now, obviously. But if someone called me today or tomorrow and was like, ‘Hey, we have this amazing Flash idea,’ obviously it’s like, I’m gonna take that phone call and listen to that idea.

And I think this is a character that I’m going to — no matter if I play it again [or not] — I’ll probably be associated with this character more than anything else in my career, for the rest of my life. So I’ll always listen to any Flash pitch.

…it’s very, very close to my heart. I think it always will be.

The idea has to be amazing. People remember the time when Ezra Miller’s The Flash actually crossed over to the series. It was Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen who told Miller’s about the scarlet speedster’s superhero name. Gustin has been Barry Allen and Flash for so long that fans consider him as the OG Flash.

In fact, there was even a petition to use Gustin’s Flash as the mainstream feature Flash especially during the height of Miller’s problems with the authorities. Over a year later Miller still stars the upcoming movie that will pave the way for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Slate.

Then again, because of the multiverse that DCU will also have, not to mention the existence of its Elseworlds brand, there is always that good chance actors can pop in anytime in any ongoing project.

Not closing the door for a future return to the role is just being realistic for Gustin. E! Online even quotes the actor saying:

I’ll get to be The Flash forever even when this ends. We couldn’t have done this this long if we didn’t have people supporting us as much as they had over the years, and it’s really shaped who I am.

Indeed, for fans he will always be The Flash.
