The New Mutants’ New Poster Harkens Back To Classic Horror Movies

The new poster for The New Mutants embraces the film’s horror roots and references Nightmare of Elm Street and Peter Jackson’s The Frighteners.

The New Mutants will be Fox’s first attempt at doing a comic book movie set in the horror genre, which seems like a great idea to me. There are plenty of terrifying comic books and The New Mutants offers a perfect entry point to the genre. The film’s first trailer depicted a bunch of young mutants trapped inside an old creepy-looking hospital. It’s a brilliant premise and demonstrates Fox’s will to try different things with their comic book movies.

Deadpool was Fox’s first foray into the world of R-rated violence and adult humour in comic book movies. They then made Logan which was a dark, depressing and violent apocalyptic road movie. Now they’re making The New Mutants which is being helmed by The Fault in Our Stars director and Stephen King nerd, Josh Boone. He’s working off a script from Knate Lee and this movie will mark the beginning of a trilogy of horror-inflicted movies set in the X-Men universe.

This all sounds great to me. They’ve released a new poster which highlights the film’s horror overtones by referencing classic movies of the genre such as Wes Craven’s Nightmare on Elm Street. The whole ‘face coming through a spandex wall’ thing was first pioneered in Craven’s Nightmare on Elm Street. Check out the new poster below.
