Spider-Man 4 With Tobey Maguire Not Happening

It’s been revealed to us that there are currently no plans at Sony Pictures to make Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire, which is a huge letdown to me personally. I was really hoping that Sony would make a fourth Spider-Man film with Maguire back in the role. However, it seems like it will not come to fruition.

There were some rumours that Maguire would be returning to the role of Peter Parker in the MCU, possibly in Avengers: Secret Wars. Now, I have asked our sources about that. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get any solid confirmation that we will get to see Maguire back as his version of Spider-Man in the upcoming Avengers picture.

Interestingly enough, a pretty big report from Geekosity suggested that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire’s versions of Peter would fight Tom Hardy’s Venom in Avengers: Secret Wars. That’s a pretty big call, and I haven’t personally heard anything like that from my sources. However, I do have my fingers crossed that it does end up happening.

So, let’s go into what we were told about Spider-Man 4. We were recently informed that “Tobey’s fourth Spider-Man film isn’t on the docket at Sony”. The source then added that Sony “isn’t even talking about bringing Maguire back again”. This all comes after fans and audiences were delighted to see Tobey Maguire return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

I’m pretty certain that his and Andrew Garfield’s respective returns as Spidey will go down as one of the most glorious moments in Hollywood history. I thought it was the very best moment of fan service I have ever seen. I would put it ahead Chris Evans’ Captain America picking up Thor’s hammer in Avengers: Endgame, which was a pretty incredible bit of fan service that will also go down in Hollywood’s history books.

Will he play Peter Parker again in the MCU?

So, it seems as though Maguire will get to play Spider-Man again. However, it looks like he won’t be getting his own standalone Spider-Man film. One of the big questions that fans have is will The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will happen with Andrew Garfield. Well, we didn’t get any information from our sources about that movie. However, it seems there’s a better chance of that movie happening than Maguire’s Spidey film.

We’ve already heard Andrew Garfield say that he would love to play the character again, and there’s a lot of support online about a third movie in The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Moreover, a new report suggested that Sony Pictures has quite a few Spider-Man and Spider-Man adjacent movies in the works. These movies include the new Ton Holland Spider-Man trilogy, Venom 3, Kraven The Hunter, Madame Web and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Parts 1 and 2. That’s a lot for Sony to be working on, and it seems like adding Maguire’s Spider-Man 4, and maybe even Garfield’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to the mix would be too much.

Could Kevin Feige use Maguire and Garfield in the MCU?

Film Odyssey then suggested on Twitter that Maguire’s fourth Spidey film isn’t being talked about, thus adding credence to what our source told us. You can check out the tweet for yourselves below:

I also wonder whether Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige might want to use Maguire and Garfield’s versions of Spidey in at least one of their upcoming Avengers films. They don’t want the attention taken away from those films. We’ll have to wait and see whether the former Spider-Man actors will ever get to play the wallcrawler again.
