It’s been revealed that Netflix has finally opted to give the official greenlight to The Sandman Season 2, which is just brilliant news. Of course, if you’re a reader of Small Screen, then you would have known that the second season was already a go over at the streaming platform. However, it wasn’t until yesterday that the news was officially announced by Netflix and The Sandman’s creator, Neil Gaiman.

Gaiman revealed this news via his Twitter account, and the reaction to this news has been pretty positive. So many fans of the show were starting to worry that Netflix wasn’t going to renew the show officially. We were the only outlet out there that was trying to reassure people that the second season was coming. We were told a while back that the second season was being worked on behind the scenes and was going to happen on the streaming platform.

Here’s what Gaiman had to say about The Sandman Season 2 being officially greenlit by Netflix:

The rumours are true. Netflix is thrilled that so many of you have been watching Sandman, and the thing we were all hoping would happen… has indeed happened…

So, yep. Our sources were spot on, and we cannot wait to see what happens with the second season of this incredible new DC series. Yes, this series is based on a DC comic book series which is incredible by the way. I can’t recommend the comics enough if you haven’t read them yet. Gaiman is one of the greatest living writers and created an amazing world you just want to spend so much time in. I can’t wait to see all that imagination brought to the small streaming screen.

Will there be a third season?

The second season should see the likes of Tom Sturridge as the title character, aka Dream. The first season starred the likes of Boyd Holbrook, Vivienne Acheampong, and Patton Oswalt in supporting roles. I think that Patton Oswalt will be back in the second season. However, given what happened to Boyd’s character in the first season, I doubt that he’ll be back for a second season. We’ll have to wait and see.

One of the biggest names in the first season was Gwendoline Christie, who played Lucifer and was brilliant in the role. We know she’ll be back for the second season, and Gaiman revealed that there would be more scenes between Dream and Lucifer in the second season. That’s something that I’m looking forward to watching because Christie is so good as Lucifer. However, Sturridge is really the show’s standout performer. There’s no one better suited to play the role of Dream. He’s perfect in the role, and it was brilliant casting getting him as the show’s lead character.

We still don’t have a release date for The Sandman Season 2. However, I’ve been told that the second season will be released on Netflix in 2023. This means that the second season should go into production relatively soon.
