Moon Knight Season 2 Should Start Filming Next Year

Moon-Knight-Season-2-Should-Start-Filming-Next-Year

After a year of waiting, we finally hear that Moon Knight Season 2 could very well start filming next year if all goes according to plan. The Marvel superhero with dissociative identity disorder, or DID, is reported to return soon.

This is welcome news and even more, if it didn’t come with the snag that Jonathan Majors’ situation…, the actor portraying the Multiverse Saga main villain, brought with it. Moon Knight stars Primetime Emmy Nominee Oscar Isaac in the titular role, or should we say roles?

He started out as Steven Grant, then at the same time Marc Spector, who became Moon Knight and Mr. Knight only to end the series with another identity as Jake Lockley, who stayed as Konshu’s avatar. Audiences noted the series carried a different tone for a Marvel production.

It was comparatively dark and, for a number of people, hard to follow through in watching all episodes. Many commented that the best parts of the series were left off the camera during Steven’s blackouts.

Yet, despite this seeming disappointment, critics and verified audiences gave favourable reviews to the show on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, the season got an 86% Average on the Tomatometer and an 89% average on audience score. Critics’ consensus read:

Its entertainment value may wax and wane a bit, but Moon Knight ultimately settles into a mostly enjoyable — and refreshingly weird — spot in the MCU firmament.

Personally, I did enjoy watching the entire series. It was the first time I got to see a Marvel superhero who had multiple personalities. I found Steven’s predicament frustrating, hilarious and frightening all at the same time. Especially when he blacks out and suddenly finds himself in a situation keenly indicating his other self brutally dealt with whatever it was that was threatening him.

Moon Knight was quite an enjoyable watch that even though Disney and Marvel currently label it as a limited series, people who liked it can’t help but hope for a Moon Knight Season 2. Now, rumours indicate that this hope could come true.

Moon Knight Season 2 Could Even Start Filming Next Year

According to an Instagram post from Updates4Marvel, Moon Knight Season 2 had been undergoing initial development. And apparently, they said:

The second season of the series #MoonKnight has passed the initial development stages at #MarvelStudios, and filming operations will begin next year!

The post on Instagram quotes industry insider Jeff Sneider’s Twitter account. Sneider has been working in the industry for quite some, and he’s part of the podcast and YouTube show, The Hot Mic, where he talks about anything pop culture with John Rocha. He also gives the odd ‘scoop’ here and there whilst on the show.

In a recent episode, they discussed the issue that Jonathan Majors is going through. The actor may be charged with multiple counts of assault. As the allegations are yet to be ironed out, things may look unfavourable for the actor in terms of continuing his portrayal of Kang in the MCU.

When Rocha asked if plans were going forward for Majors, Sneider disclosed:

I’ve heard that Marvel has not made any decision regarding Jonathan Majors but they have met or spoken with his agent to discuss potential options going forward.

I am told he has a small role in Loki Season 2 and that he may also have been part of the plan for Moon Knight Season 2.

Given that Majors will be the major (yes, I had to do that) part of the Multiverse Saga, it was quite natural to get Kang or a version of Kang to be in future projects leading to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This was already evident in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania teasing his Loki Season 2 return.

If there is any chance that Moon Knight Season 2 will genuinely happen, Kang or a version of Kang would fit right in the storyline of an avatar of an Egyptian god. He may be one of the gods himself. In fact, we reported a few weeks back that a variant of Kang is said to be the villain for the series.

It was reported that Rama-Tut, last seen in Quantumania, who is a version of Kang, will be the villain in the upcoming season of Moon Knight. Furthermore, he is a ruler from Ancient Egypt.

The connection is already clear and there. Things seem to have been coming into play, and Kang was not on the plans as a small part or cameo for the reported sequel series in development.

While Marvel Studios and Disney have yet to officially announce the second season of Moon Knight, there is an underlying question as to how it could incorporate or align its narrative to the Kang or Multiverse Saga arc.

Phase 4 was a very thinly spread period for Marvel, but it did succeed in establishing the multiverse and the sacred timeline. Because now that anything is possible, anything that can possibly go wrong is also possible. Fans of the studio that houses numerous franchises are scrutinizing how they will go forward with their new grand plan.

Taking the rumour as just a possibility? Of course, I would be happy to learn that Moon Knight Season 2 might happen and start filming next year. Which fan would not like that? But what do you think? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
