Game of Thrones features a huge ensemble cast and is set on Westeros and Essos, fictional continents.

But just how did game of thrones turn history into mythology?

The series was initially to be adapted as a movie by David Benioff and his friend D.B. Weiss.

This was short-lived as they realized they would lose out on most of the characters and plot from the book.

This prompted them to start working on television adaptation.

The two engaged R.R. Martin whom they had several hours with as they discussed through the project. R.R. Martin was happy with the idea and together they agreed that it was a good series suitable for HBO network Cable Company.

The enthusiasm was well received by HBO who eventually agreed about the project and there was active development of the pilot script in 2007.

However, it was delayed due to the strike by Writers Guild of America that happened between 2007 and 2008.

HBO bought the rights to this series in October 2008 and requested for the pilot episode some weeks later.
