First Reactions To Greta Gerwig's Barbie Are Very Good

It seems as though people are getting to watch Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie, and the first reactions are very, very good! It was revealed not too long ago that select test audiences are being given early cuts of Barbie to feedback on and the reactions are hugely positive, to say the least.

Mattel’s Barbie is a children’s toy icon for decades and will finally get a live-action release starring Margot Robbie in the lead role alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken.

The movie is being directed by award-winner Greta Gerwig. Gerwig also wrote the movie’s script with Noah Baumbach. It was made for on a reported budget of $100 million, and expectations are high over at Warner Bros. Pictures after these recent test screenings.

Audience feedback for the movie ended up being leaked on the Internet via a website called World of Reel, and it’s looking like this movie could end up winning quite a few awards and could make money at the box office when it’s released in cinemas.

Here’s what some people who got to watch the early test screening had to say about the movie. “It’s one of the best studio films in years”, noted one reviewer, who also stated that “visually it’s iconic, the costumes.. and sets feel toy-esque and animated”.

They also noted the campy over the top performances would be “memed to death”. Another reviewer stated that they “loved it”, and it’s going to be “massive”.

Noting that the film redefines Barbie for the current generation, they also state the film has a lot of “heart” and that Gosling is “outstanding”.

These first reactions to the movie is extremely positive, and that’s a good thing because I think that the world needs a good Barbie movie! The iconic toy deserves a good movie, and I cannit wait to see this film once it’s finally released in cinemas.

Could this movie win awards at the next Oscars?

The movie’s budget is pretty high, but it looks like Warner Bros. Pictures might end up making their money back on this project. People were shocked when they first heard that Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach were working on a Barbie movie.

Gerwig’s previous work includes films such as Little Women and Lady Bird. All her movies tend to be really well-received by critics and do well come awards season.

It would be brilliant if this Barbie movie could end up being nominated for some Oscars in 2024. I would love that!

I’m also pretty sure that Mattel will also be very happy to hear this news because it means that if the film ends up doing very well at the box office, then toy sales could end up skyrocketing after the movie’s release.

The Barbie movie is slated to be released in cinemas in the United States on July 21st, 2023.
