Ezra Miller Could Still Be The Flash In James Gunn’s DCU

A recent article suggests that Ezra Miller may just still be The Flash for James Gunn’s new DCU. Variety posts about the inner workings of project development back in the studio even before Gunn and Peter Safran took over.

The 2023 movie offerings of DC Films, now DC Studios, were already in place even before Gunn and Safran took over. We all know what has been happening, at least what they want us to know what has been happening.

It goes without saying that The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, has been running through the production force for years. So many times, the release date has been scheduled, rescheduled, and moved.

There was a point when people began to think it might not actually get to cinemas. But here we are.

Other than shooting, story and/or post-production concerns, a huge chunk of setbacks for the speedster’s solo film feature is the lead actor themselves.

One after another, they face issues with authorities for cases ranging from assault, and alleged abduction to grooming, to breaking and entering private property.

It just didn’t paint the town red for the speedster to run smoothly into the theatres. Steadily, the hashtag movements and signature campaigns pushed for them to be removed from the project.

There was even a time when fans wanted the movie to have Grant Gustin instead. But by the time Warner Bros Discovery reached the finality of the merger, the production was done and after some refinement, all they really had to do was release it.

DC Films has shelled out so much money into the project that Warner Bros have to put it out there. Plus, they really need The Flash to set things up for future projects.

And so, the top management has to take certain measures. They have seen the movie, of course.

David Zaslav said the movie is great. As early as August last year, the Warner Bros Discovery CEO said:

We have seen The Flash, Black Adam and Shazam 2. We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better.

Later on, news about Miller’s court summons arrives as well as updates that the actor is getting help. Apparently, they’ve been having mental health treatment for months.

There were also reports that they’ve been showing up on scheduled reshoots without any problem. Even writers the actor has worked with before had only good things to say about them.

Now, with their upcoming movie finally reaching its release date, some are saying that the movie is comparable to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight. Really it’s that good?

Now, one has to ask if the public is ready to know that he stays on as the character. It is already rubbing many fans the wrong way, especially with WBD cancelling Batgirl.

Meanwhile, in the latest article from Variety, part of it reads:

Given that Miller has stayed out of trouble since beginning mental health treatment in the summer, some executives are amenable to continuing with the actor as the world-saving speedster after “The Flash” bows on June 16.

They didn’t mention which executives. Neither did they mention the co-CEOs Gunn and Safran of DC Studios along these lines.

Is it really possible? If only the public could separate Miller’s talent from his personal issues, could it still be possible?

Online reactions are really blunt in saying they wouldn’t watch the movie because Miller is the lead. No matter how good it is, there will be people who will remind everyone who cares to read.

As Gunn finishes the new DC bible, is there room for Miller in his slate of projects?

Are they forgivable? It is likely that there will be no official statement about this anytime soon.

For one thing, the movie hasn’t even premiered in theatres yet. I think they will have to test the waters first.

Most probably, they will announce whether they remain the character or not only after the movie has had its run.

But what do you think of this possibility? Would your decision to watch the scarlet speedster’s solo movie depend on whether Miller stays as Barry or not?
