Disney To Make Alien Their Next ‘Mega-Franchise’

It’s been reported to us by sources reportedly close to Disney that they are currently planning on making Alien their next huge franchise with new TV shows and movies for Disney Plus STAR.

The phrase used by our source was “mega-franchise”.

Disney reportedly believes that Alien could be huge for them and they want to make TV shows and movies.

It was already revealed by Disney at their investor’s day presentation back in December that they are making an Alien series with Noah Hawley.

They also announced that Ridley Scott would be producing the show for them.

In the US, this show would be coming to Hulu.

However, it was announced that the show would be coming to Disney Plus STAR everywhere else in the world.

So, here’s what one of our sources had to say about Alien be planned as Disney’s next big franchise, which is pretty exciting for me personally as I am a huge Alien fan:

Disney is currently planning out movies and more TV shows based around the Alien property. They are looking at it as their next mega-franchise which will be geared towards getting more adults subscribing to Disney Plus and Hulu.

I then pressed the source for more information on these upcoming Alien properties. For instance, one of the questions I asked our source is whether these future TV shows and movies will be made P-13 for instance, as Disney is rather averse to making R-rated content at the moment?

No. These future Alien properties will be full-blown action-horror. They are not intending to make these upcoming movies and TV shows PG-13. Disney execs see this property and the Predator franchise – which they now also own – as their ‘adult’ offerings and they are hoping to boost their adult subscribers as it seems as though both movies and TV shows will be put straight to streaming. This is going to be part of their ‘Direct to consumer’ strategy – or ‘DTC’ as they often refer to is as.

I also asked about the Predator franchise which is also now part of the House Of Mouse following their acquisition of 20th Century Fox.

It was already revealed that Dan Trachtenberg will be making a new Predator movie for Disney, which is great news.

However, it sounds as though they are also planning on making more movies and TV shows based around the Predator franchise.

Yet, our source was keen to stress that there was now Alien Vs Predator reboot planned at the moment.

That said, they did say not to rule it out.

Predator is also being looked at as one of the franchises that Disney can really lean on moving forward. They see it as part of their ‘action-horror’ universe which they are hoping will bring in a wider audience into their streaming services. These properties are being developed for both Disney Plus STAR and Hulu at the moment. However, there is no Alien Vs Predator crossover planned at the moment. This doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the future. It almost definitely will be a thing Disney will want to make once they get both franchises up and running. Think of it as these franchises Avengers moments.

So, what do you make of this news?

Do you like the idea of Disney making more Alien TV shows and movies moving forward?
