Bullet Train 2 Reportedly Happening With Brad Pitt Returning

Bullet Train 2 is reportedly in early development, with Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock reprising their roles. Not only that, but director David Leitch is also attached to return. Moreover, Margot Robbie is currently in negotiations to join the film.

Considering that the original film got a rotten tomato rating with a 54% on a Tomatometer score, it actually did very well at the box office. For a budget of $85.9 million, Bullet Train earned $238 million worldwide. So, it’s no surprise that Sony would have an interest in making a sequel.

The film is actually based on a Japanese novel written by Kōtarō Isaka titled Maria Beetle. The book is actually part of the Hitman series of novels, which revolves around hitmen and assassins. Pretty much like a Japanese version of the world of John Wick when you think about it. But the Hitman series generally has a bigger scope, depth, mystery and nuanced storytelling.

Because the source material has a lot more books (and even Manga) to refer to, a sequel is not actually impossible to do.

According to a report from Giant Freakin Robot, Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock are slated to reprise their roles in the Bullet Train sequel. Furthermore, talks are underway for Margot Robbie to join the cast. It is also promising to note that director David Leitch will be returning for the sequel.

It would be interesting to see Pitt’s role as the ex-assassin Ladybug (or whatever name he gets for the new mission) try to do another job as he’s been trying to stop being one. We wonder what forces him to do another. It’s also not impossible to see that the next film could be a prequel too.

And I’d love to see Bullock do more as Maria Beetle, since we only hear her voice most of the time. We only saw her at the end of the film. She is well known for her role in Speed, While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality, and The Blind Side. She previously appeared in The Unforgivable and The Lost City, which she both starred and produced.

It would be a nice addition to see Margot Robbie added to the cast. She is currently one of the most popular actresses in the world. She is known for her roles in films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, and Birds of Prey. She is set to appear in Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City and Greta Gerwig’s Barbie.

David Leitch’s return means that the high-impact action that we saw before will remain the same. He’s known for doing action films like Deadpool 2, Hobbes and Shaw, Atomic Blonde, Nobody, and more recently Violent Night. He also co-directed the first John Wick film, even though he was uncredited.

Kōtarō Isaka’s Hitman books don’t focus on one character. So, there is a possibility that the sequel could be changed to fit Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock’s characters. But it is also possible that they might not be the main characters of the film.

In the books, assassins generally bump into each other and have their own stories to tell, which interconnect with each other. Could it be that Margot Robbie would be the main lead in Bullet Train 2 but apparently bumps into Brad Pitt’s character? It’s interesting that she is talked to this early on in the project.

One of Isaka’s books is also being adapted into a film by Netflix titled Seesaw Monster. The movie will star and be produced by both Anne Hathaway and Salma Hayek. While this one doesn’t involve assassins, it does involve interconnecting stories of several characters, which reveals secrets, mysteries and unexpected connections.
