Denzel Washington Teaming Up With John Boyega In New Action Movie

Star Wars star John Boyega and The Equalizer’s Denzel Washington are reportedly set to team up together in Antoine Fuqua’s The Escape.

Fuqua and Washington’s collaboration dates back to 2001’s Training Day, and their professional partnership has only grown stronger since then. Fuqua not only directed Washington in Training Day but also helmed another film starring the actor, The Magnificent Seven.

Now, with the third instalment of The Equalizer franchise that Fuqua will be directing, it is evident that the actor and director share a solid and productive working relationship.

The director is also known for directing Will Smith’s Emancipation for Apple TV+ and producing Brad Pitt’s Bullet Train. He also directed an episode of Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List for Amazon Prime and is currently an executive producer of Jeremy Renner’s Mayor of Kingstown for Paramount+.

With that, it seems that Washington and Fuqua are looking forward to pursuing another project. But this time with the star of Attack the Block.

According to Giant Freakin Robot, Denzel Washington and John Boyega are set to team up in The Escape, which will be directed by Equalizer director Antoine Fuqua. The film will feature both actors who will take the role of prisoners trying to escape.

This will be the first time Boyega will be working with the renowned director and the multi-awarded actor.

It’s going to be interesting to see both Boyega and Washington together. For one thing, many people have compared Boyega’s performance to Washington, especially in the 2022 film Breaking, which Boyega also produced. Some have even said that the Star Wars actor looks and sounds like a young version of Denzel Washington.

Because of that, fans of both actors have something to look forward to seeing in the upcoming movie.

Boyega is well known for his role as Finn in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, where he starred together with Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver. He also starred in The Woman King with Viola Davis. Boyega is also a formidable actor, with several projects getting him critical acclaim.

The Star Wars and soon They Cloned Tyrone star has actually amassed 16 wins and 34 nominations over the years from various organizations. His wins include a 2016 Rising Star Award for British Academy Film Awards and a 2011 Best Actor from Black Reel for Uzaylıların Şafağı.

Soon, They Cloned Tyrone will complete its post-production and be ready for its United States release date of June 14, 2023, at the American Black Film Festival. Boyega is with Teyonah Parris, Kiefer Sutherland and Jamie Foxx in the movie. After its June premiere, the movie will be available on Netflix starting July 21st.
