Zack Snyder’s Snydercut: WB Spreading Misleading Viewer Numbers

It seems when it comes to Zack Snyder’s Snydercut, WB is trying to spread misleading viewer numbers. There’s been many outlets claiming that Wonder Woman 1984 was watched by “more people” than the Snyder Cut (Zack Snyder’s Justice League).

I’m here to tell you that if you actually take the time to look at the data that was released by Samba TV, you might actually come to the realization that the Snydercut numbers are higher than we first thought.

OK, so first off let’s look at the stats.

According to Samba TV, 1.8 million US households watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max during its opening weekend (March 18th to March 21st).

What a lot of outlets did was then quote the household viewing numbers of Wonder Woman 1984 for its opening weekend, which was 2.2 million.

Samba TV reported that 2.2 million households watched Wonder Woman 1984 in the US on HBO Max.

The issue is that these numbers – as you can clearly see – only reflect a relatively small section of both movies’ viewership.

The worldwide viewership numbers of The Snyder Cut still aren’t known

Before going any further, I would recommend you go and watch Syl Abdul’s recent live stream he did on his YouTube channel with Samba TV’s Senior Director, Dr. Jeffrey Silverman.

First off, it’s a brilliant and very insightful interview.

However, what the interview does is offer valuable insight into the world of data-driven analytics and it also shows how Samba TV gets its data so early compared to all the other number-crunching companies out there.

So, in a nutshell, what Samba TV’s numbers account for are the number of people who watched the Snyder Cut on a TV upon which Samba TV’s tech in enabled.

Not only that, you have to actually opt in to having your data shared before Samba TV can access your streaming numbers.

Therefore, even though Samba TV claims that the numbers they come up with are pretty accurate and are adjusted slightly, they still miss out on a huge section of the movie’s viewership – the rest of the world.

I know it’s hard for some people, but the world is much bigger than the United States, and this 1.8 million figure is actually just a drop in the ocean compared to how many people actually watched the Snyder Cut in its opening weekend.

It also doesn’t account for people watching the movie on HBO Max outside of the states, and it’s being reported that the Justice League’s worldwide number is very impressive.

So, before you got ahead and say that Wonder Woman 1984 was watched by more people that the Snyder Cut was, you have to remember that this number is US-only.

And, it’s also TV screens only that are equipped with Samba TV’s algorithm integrated into their chips.

They’re currently integrated with 20 Smart TV brands included AOC, Sony, TCL, Panasonic, Sharp and LG.

One interesting absentee in their list of Smart TV brands is Samsung which is one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of televisions.

Wonder Woman 1984 was also released in cinemas worldwide and the Snydercut wasn’t, so there’s that to consider as well.

Honestly, comparing Wonder Woman 1984 and the Snydercut viewership numbers isn’t really what we should be doing here.

I’m pretty sure it’s not what HBO Max or WarnerMedia is doing right now.

It was never about how many viewers these movies were going to get.

HBO Max wants subscribers, and the real Holy Grail for them is a movie which will make a bunch of people subscribe to their platform and stay there.

That’s the long game, and we need to remember that fact.

We still don’t have the actual viewership numbers for the Snyder Cut, and we probably never will have them.

We also still don’t know how many new subscribers flocked to HBO Max to watch the Snyder Cut.

The really worrying thing for me is seeing people saying that they are going to cancel their HBO Max subscriptions after Ann Sarnoff’s recent interview with Variety.

She’s WarnerMedia Studios’ CEO, and she made it clear that she was done with the SnyderVerse.

This got the fan-base riled up, and they took to social media to say they were cancelling their HBO Max subscription.

If you do that, you’ll never see the SnyderVerse carry on.

What I advise you do is wait and see what happens.

Just remember a year ago, the Snyder Cut wasn’t even going to be a thing.

WarnerMedia has a history of drastically altering course and there are reports of a rift between the higher-ups inside WarnerMedia.

HBO Max wants more SnyderVerse content – people like Sarnoff don’t.

Who will win t his battle? Only time will tell.

But, yeah. Many more than 1.8 million households watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League in its opening weekend on HBO Max in the US.
