Tron Series In Development For Disney Plus

Disney-Plus-Tron-Series

A Tron series might be in development for Disney Plus if this new report is to be believed! It’s been revealed that Disney is working on a new Tron series which is being developed for Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus. This news comes to us via Giant Freakin Robot, and I’m really hoping that this news is correct. I personally haven’t heard anything about a series set in this universe, but I think it makes a lot of sense.

Tron has become something of a cult hit. The first movie was released back in 1982, and it was pretty groundbreaking as far as science fiction films are concerned. However, it does have to be said that the movie hasn’t aged very well. In 2010, we finally got a sequel to the first movie, called Tron: Legacy. The movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski, and it saw Jeff Bridges return to the franchise.

As far as the franchise is concerned, it’s one that Disney hasn’t really done much with over the years. However, it’s looking like they’ve literally just realised that they are sitting on something of a money bomb. It’s just been revealed that they are opening a new Tron ride at Disney World in Florida. That’s pretty cool! And now, they are making a new series for Disney Plus. I honestly think that this is the perfect medium for the franchise.

There’s been so much demand from so many people for the franchise to continue. However, Disney has been very silent on what’s going on with the franchise. They still are, but we’re hearing reports that they are cooking something Tron-related behind the scenes. There had been reports that a new movie starring Jared Leto was in development. Yet, it seems as though that project is now dormant.

Why has Dinsey forgotten about Tron?

One of the things I will say about Giant Freakin Robot’s report on this new Tron series is that it’s very light on any details. All they really say is that they have heard that Disney is making a new series. This might have been something that Disney could have announced at this year’s D23. However, it seems as though it’s not that far along in development. All we can do is wait and see what ends up happening with this series.

I actually really enjoyed Tron: Legacy, which was the last movie to be released in the franchise. The movie starred Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges. Unfortunately, it didn’t do all that well at the box office, but it’s ended up becoming something of a cult film over time. It’s a lot like what happened to the original movie. There was also an animated series, which came to Disney XD, called Tron: Uprising. This series ended up filling in the backstory between the two films. However, there is still plenty of room for the story to develop, and I really do think that a live-action series would be the best way for the franchise to move forward. The question remains, will Jared Leto manage to get himself into this series or not? Only time will tell.
