The Thing Fans Are Freaking Out After It Was Revealed COVID-19 Reached An Antarctic Research Base

Fans of Jon Carpenter’s incredible film, The Thing are currently freaking out right now after it was revealed that COVID-19 has now reached an Antarctic research base. They are, of course, getting worried because it does sound a little bit like the plot of the sci-fi horror movie.

I think I’ve said it on here a number of times by now, but I’ll say it again. The Thing (John Carpenter’s version) is one of my favourite movies of all time. I rewatch it every year, and I’m planning a little watch of The Thing this Christmastime.

Anyway, fans of the movie are starting to get a bit worried after it was revealed that COVID-19 had reached a remote research base in Antartica. This is something that sounds like it was ripped straight from the pages of a sci-fi horror novel, or a movie, like The Thing. So, people have now taken to Twitter to comment on the similarities between what’s been happening and what happens in movies like The Thing.

It was revealed by The Antarctic Report that 36 people on the O’Higgins base have now tested positive for COVID-19. Here’s what they wrote via a Tweet:

Sadly #Antarctica is no longer free of COVID-19! The Chilean army today reported 36 personnel at O’Higgins Base have tested positive (26 military and 10 civilians); the station has been undergoing the annual exchange of personnel over the last few weeks.
