The Incredible Hulk’s Tim Blake Nelson Reveals The Leader Would Have Been In The Sequel

Samuel Sterns The Incredible Hulk Tim Blake Nelson MCU Marvel

The Incredible Hulk remains to this day one of the worst films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), however, it’s by no means the worst, and Marvel Studios had big plans for these films, but they just never came to fruition.

It was revealed recently by Watchmen star, Tim Blake Nelson, that Marvel’s producers had ideas to have his character in the first Hulk movie, Dr. Samuel Sterns, become The Leader in a subsequent sequel.

However, it went further than that. He reportedly signed a three-movie deal with Marvel but never turned up in a Marvel film beyond The Incredible Hulk.

Sounds like Marvel wanted Tim Blake Nelson to play The Leader in an Incredible Hulk sequel

He revealed this during a recent interview with GQ, and here’s what he had to say about the whole ordeal:

I got called down to the lobby of the Mercer Hotel to meet Louis Leterrier and Gale Ann Hurd, who’s producer. They said, ‘We want you to play this science character [Samuel Sterns],” and I’d read the script. He was a wildly eccentric guy, mainly in the second half of the movie.

I thought that was interesting because I haven’t been in one of these movies before and they said, ‘Well, you’re going to become the villain in the next movie, so you’ll basically be signing up for three movies and you’re going to be this character called The Leader.’ And I thought ‘Oh my God, this is fantastic.’

It’s a really interesting interview with the actor, who’s now making waves as Wade Tillman in HBO’s Watchmen TV show, and he’s brilliant in it.

I’m going to admit that I’m really upset we didn’t get to see Nelson become The Leader, and I think he’d be an excellent fit for the role.

However, he seems to be doing pretty well nowadays regardless, and there’s always the possibility he might return to the MCU in the future.
