Shadow-And-Bone-Season-3-Release-Date

Shadow And Bone Season 3 is still something of a mystery to us here at Small Screen. Is it happening? Has it been greenlit by Netflix? If so, when will it be released on the streaming platform? Also, who could be starring in the third season?

These are all questions that we have about the third season, and I’m sure that many of you do too. So, we’re going to do our very best to answer these questions for you based on what information is out there and things we’ve heard from our own sources.

So, without any further ado, let’s talk about Shadow And Bone Season 3 and whether it’s every going to come to Netflix, and if so, when it could be released on the streaming platform.

The first thing we need to try and figure out is whether the third season of the show is happening or not over at Netflix. That’s not such an easy question to answer because, officially, Netflix hasn’t revealed a single thing about the show’s third season.

As far as the show’s renewal status is concerned, it’s still unclear whether Netflix is going to go ahead with the third season or not. It’s all going to come down to the numbers, and as of writing this article, it’s looking like Shadow And Bone is literally on the cusp of being cancelled.

According to What’s On Netflix, between March 12th and April 2nd, the show has picked up 132.43M hours in the top 10s. Here’s what they had to say that meant for the show’s future:

Sadly, without a massive debut for Shadow and Bone season 2 and no growth in week 2, we changed our prediction to likely cancelation. Week 3 almost certainly sealed the deal with a dramatic 51% in viewing hours.

That’s not very good news. However, it’s not all doom and gloom. According to FlixPatrol’s numbers, the show was still the fourth biggest around the globe as of April 4th, 2023, and showed particular strength in countries like Australia, the Nordics, and Central to East Europe. So, it could end up being renewed, but it’s really right on the edge.

If they were to give it a third season, then went could it be released? Well, I actually think that Netflix would like to get the show made and released as quickly as possible because something tells me that it won’t get a fourth season.

There was a big gap between seasons 1 and 2 (about two years), and Netflix won’t want that to happen again. So, my best estimation would be a 2024 release date for Shadow And Bone Season 3.

As far as the show’s cast is concerned, I’m pretty certain that should the third season get the greenlight, then I would expect the following cast members to return:

  • Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov
  • Archie Renaux as Mal Oretsev
  • Ben Barnes as General Kirigan, aka the Darkling
  • Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker
  • Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa
  • Kit Young as Jesper Fahey
  • Daisy Head as Genya Safin
  • Danielle Galligan as Nina Zenik
  • Calahan Skogman as Matthias
  • Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya

Moreover, if you’re looking for an answer for what might happen in the third season, it seems it could follow Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows book series. That said, showrunner Eric Heisserer did reveal that there are actually plans in the works for a separate Six of Crows spin-off, and the scripts have already been written. Here’s what he had to say on the matter during an interview with EW:

The eight-episode scripts are phenomenal, and I’m really proud of my team for those.

He added that the spin-off “would be its own little season of fun that our characters would get to be a part of.”

All of this means that season three of Shadow And Bone would likely draw from the King of Scars series, which follows Nikolai Lantsov as king of Ravka. At the end of season two, it was revealed Nikolai now has nichevo’ya [shadow monsters] in him. Actor Patrick Gibson, who plays Nikolai, would love to dive further into this struggle.

Here’s what he told Town & Country in a recent interview:

He may have to really battle with an inner darkness that he hasn’t had before, and I think that will be really interesting because his intentions are so good, and his motivations are so good, but having a bit of the Darkling get inside you…there’s going to be a battle of good versus evil that is within him, and not just outside. That would be really cool because I love playing darker characters. It would be interesting to play Nikolai with more of an inner struggle.

Shadow And Bone Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on Netflix right now.
