DC Studios’ co-CEO, James Gunn, has revealed that the rumours that Robert Pattinson’s Batman might be coming to the DC Universe are “entirely untrue”, which I’m actually a bit sad to hear. Variety had reported that Gunn and Peter Safran were thinking of a way of bringing Pattinson’s Batman into their DCU. However, Gunn took to Twitter to claim that the report was completely untrue.

Here’s what James Gunn had to say about the rumours that Robert Pattinson’s Batman was going to be coming to the DCU:

There are few reporters I love more than @adambvary – truly a good guy – but in this case he needs to get a new source as this is entirely untrue.

This comes after Adam B. Vary wrote a report for Variety in which he claimed that a ‘well-placed source’ informed him that James Gunn and Peter Safran were thinking about the possibility of bringing Robert Pattinson’s Batman into the main DC Universe. However, it turns out that Vary’s ‘well-placed source’ wasn’t as ‘well-placed’ as the journalist thought, which does happen sometimes.

Honestly, as far as I’m concerned, I’m actually quite happy to hear that Gunn and Safran are leaving the Matt Reeves Batman movies alone. These are going to be standalone Batman films, and they’ll have a few spinoff shows, including the likes of the Penguin series starring Colin Farrell and the upcoming Arkham Asylum series.

I like the idea of having separate DC movies and universes. That’s fine. The only question I have is, what are Gunn and Safran’s plans for the Dark Kight in the DCU? Is he going to carry on with Ben Affleck’s version? I’m not so sure, especially after the news that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing Superman in the DC movies as they look for a younger actor to play the role.

What’s happening with Batman in the DCU?

I’ve said it on multiple occasions now, I genuinely believe that Pattinson’s take on the Dark Knight is the best one I’ve ever seen. The Batman was my favourite movie to come out this year, and I was blown away by Pattinson in the movie. It was a very different take on the character, and I’ve never been so impressed and engrossed by a Batman performance on the big screen.

I am very excited to see what Matt Reeves and Pattinson have in store for us in the upcoming The Batman sequel. That movie will hopefully be brilliant, and I’m very intrigued in finding out which Batman villain or villains they end up going with in this upcoming movie.

I think we’re in for a very interesting time when it comes to the future of DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran coming in to lead DC Studios is, in my opinion, a masterstroke on Warner Bros Discovery’s behalf. They are taking things back to the beginning, which I think is exactly what the DC movies and TV shows needed.

The fact that we also have Matt Reeves working on future Batman projects is also very promising. We also have the Joker sequel, Joker: Folie A Deux, which I’m pretty interested in watching.
