New Live-Action Hellboy Movie In The Works

It’s been revealed that a new live-action Hellboy movie is in the works over at Millennium Media, which is a very interesting move on the studio’s behalf. This comes after the pretty poor reboot attempt back in 2019, which starred David Harbour as the titular character.

I love Harbour and thought he was a really good choice for the role. However, the movie just let him down. It’s no secret that the movie was plagued by studio interference, which is never good news when you hear that a studio will not stop getting in the way of the creator’s vision.

The really interesting thing about this news is that this new ‘reboot’ already has a director attached to it. It’s been revealed that Brian Taylor has been chosen to direct the new Hellboy film. Taylor is an interesting choice and has a background in making comic book movies.

He co-wrote the screenplay for 2010’s Jonah Hex. He also co-directed Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, the 2011 sequel to Sony’s original film, which starred Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze. He directed the movie with fellow filmmaker Mark Neveldine.

The two long-time friends, credited as Neveldine/Taylor, started working together in the early 2000s, and the first movie they made together was Jason Statham’s incredible action movie, Crank. They then went on to direct and write the insane sequel Crank: High Voltage and 2009’s Gamer starring Gerad Butler.

There’s a new Hellboy reboot in the works!

However, after the release of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Brian Taylor has worked in television as the showrunner on Syfy’s Happy!, which follows an injured hitman (Christopher Meloni) who befriends his kidnapped daughter’s imaginary friend, a perky blue flying unicorn voiced by Patton Oswalt.

That show ended in 2019 and since then, Taylor has worked with the iconic comic book writer Grant Morrison on the pilot for Peacock’s Brave New World. That series was a dystopian sci-fi show starring Solo: A Star Wars Story’s Alden Ehrenreich, Jessica Brown Findlay, and Harry Lloyd.

According to DiscussingFilm, The movie’s working title is Hellboy: The Crooked Man. However, it’s still not clear whether this movie will be an adaptation of the three-issue comic book series that debuted back in April 2011.

This new movie seems to be adapting The Crooked Man storyline

I have a feeling that this movie will be the same story as in that comic book run, which is a really good thing, as the story in that particular run is incredible. The miniseries follows Hellboy in 1956, somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia, as he encounters Tom, a man who, in his youth, sold his soul to a backwoods demon known as the Crooked Man.

Together, they travel back into the dark heart of the Appalachian mountains to confront the demon and see if Tom’s soul can be saved.

However, it has to be said that the plot details for this new Hellboy film are currently under wraps. This new Hellboy reboot seems to be incredibly far along in production, as it’s going to start filming this April in Bulgaria.

This new movie will not star David Harbour or Ron Perlman.

I’ll let you know if we hear anything else about this new Hellboy reboot. This is something that I am personally very interested in as a huge fan of the comic book character!
