Netflix Has Added One Of The Best Action Movies Ever Made

One of the very best action movies ever made is available to watch on Netflix right now, and this is a movie that you’re really going to want to watch. There’s been a whole bunch of new content added to Netflix to start the new year.

Among some of that content is The Raid 2, which is one of the best action movies ever made. The movie, which is a 2014 Indonesian action thriller, is a sequel to The Raid, which was released in 2011.

Both movies were written and directed by Welsh director, Gareth Evans. The first Raid movie is also available to watch on the streaming platform, so you can have an excellent time watching the first movie and then watching the second one.

However, this isn’t the only terrific action movie that’s made its way to Netflix at the start of 2023. The streaming platform has also added the likes of Minority Report, which stars Tom Cruise, and Edgar Wright’s incredible comic book movie, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Another terrific action movie that’s now on the streaming platform is Top Gun, another Tom Cruise movie.

Now, back to The Raid 2. As I mentioned above, the film was written and directed by Gareth Evans. What I didn’t mention was that he also edited the film himself.

The movie picks up literally minutes after the conclusion of the first film. The film features Iko Uwais (Snake Eyes, The Night Comes For Us), who’s reprising the role of police officer Rama.

Fresh off his exhausting battle up a skyscraper, fighting off a drug cartel and rescuing his brother, Rama is given a new assignment, going undercover in the world of the Jakarta underworld to expose corruption between the gangs and the police.

While undercover, he encounters a collection of colourful and dangerous characters on this journey. He ends up causing and inflicting a lot of damage to people and property along the way.

Will there be a The Raid 3?

One of the questions I have – and I’m sure you do too – is, will there be a The Raid 3? After the critical and commercial success of the first two movies, it seemed that Evans would get working on the third movie in the series.

However, Evans ended up working on other projects and seems like The Raid 3 was put on the back burner for a while. That said, there is some good news for fans of the incredible action movie franchise.

Evans himself has already revealed what the ‘theoretical’ plot for the sequel would have been. He revealed that the third movie would have changed location and followed a totally different character.

The writer/director revealed this during an interview on the Empire Spoiler Special Podcast (via MovieWeb). He explained how the film would move away from the series’ roots by being set in the jungles of West Java.

The writer/director added that it would have been a little like the original Predator. Evans added that the Japanese mob boss would reunite with a former associate boss in the jungle where they’d find the city-dwelling kill squad out of their element.

Evans did say that his ideas for the movie may not have been what fans were expecting, saying “it would have pissed off an awful lot of people” and that fans knowing his plans for the film now will likely not ask him to make it.

Before I knew it, I was five years down the line, I’d made Apostle, we were starting to get production going on Gangs Of London. I couldn’t see myself going back out to make The Raid 3. My interests had moved on to other projects. You work with other people, you meet other people and want to work with them again, you want to try different things, you find a story that suddenly captures your attention and that’s the thing you want to do next. Things get offered to you that are hard to pass up on.
