Lars Mikkelsen is going to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in the upcoming live-action Ahsoka Tano series, which is very interesting news. This news comes to us via Bespin Bulletin, and it’s actually very much in line with what we’ve been told for a very long time by our own sources. They are claiming the Danish actor, who voiced the character in the animated Star Wars: Rebels show, has been hired to play Thrawn in the upcoming Ahsoka series.

This series is being made for Disney Plus, and it’s going to star the likes of Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Eman Esfandi and potentially Hayden Christensen. It was reported not too long ago that Eman Esfandi had been cast as the live-action Ezra Bridger, which I think is really, really good casting. However, Mena Massoud was also a good shout for the role, but Lucasfilm ultimately opted for Esfandi.

OK, so we were told in January 2021 that Lars Mikkelsen was in talks with Lucasfilm about playing Thrawn in live-action. That was a while back, and it seems as though it was the beginning of the negotiation process between the Thrawn voice actor and Lucasfilm. It was then revealed to us that he was specifically in talks to play the character in the upcoming Ahsoka series. We will hold our hands up and say that we were told that he would be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration.

That didn’t happen, and it seems as though we were given false information on that front, which can happen I do apologise for that. However, there might have been other reasons why Lucasfilm opted not to unveil the actor at the Star Wars-centric event.

He’s signed on the dotted line!

We’re now hearing from Christopher Marc on Twitter (a journalist who writes for The Playlist and The Ronin) that Lars Dittmann Mikkelsen (to use his full name) has signed on the dotted line to star as Thrawn in live-action in the upcoming Ahsoka Tano series. This is terrific news, and we have tried to confirm this with our own sources. As of yet, we haven’t heard anything back. However, this doesn’t mean that Marc’s information is incorrect.

Who else will star in the Ahsoka Tano series?

Here’s what Marc had to say about the Danish actor playing Thrawn in the Ahsoka Tano show:

Looks like #Ahsoka has indeed hired Lars Mikkelsen to play THRAWN in the series and will have his traditional white uniform in the streaming series. Mikkelsen has been rumored for ages and previously voiced the character on #StarWarsRebels.

No one else can do the voice quite like Lars Mikkelsen

It’ll be interesting to see when Lucasfilm decides to officially unveil that Lars Mikkelsen is playing the role he made so popular in live-action. There’s no one that can do the voice as well as he does, and he also looks a lot like Thrawn in real life. I have a feeling that he was pushing Lucasfilm hard on this one, and you know what, I don’t blame him. This could be a huge role for him, and he should be remunerated properly, especially if he has to put loads of makeup on for the role.

Ahsoka is scheduled to be released on Disney Plus in 2023.
