It’s been revealed that Eman Esfandi has been cast as Ezra Bridger in the upcoming Ahsoka Tano series, which will be coming to Disney Plus in 2023. This news was revealed by Cinelinx before Disney’s D23 event that’s taking place today and tomorrow.

Eman Esfandi has been seen in movies such as Robert Rodriguez’s horror film Red 11, which screened at Cannes in 2019, as well as a small role in best picture nominee King Richard. Esfandi is also going to be starring in the upcoming gay military drama The Inspection, which is getting very good early reviews after its recent screenings at the Toronto Film Festival this week.

Ezra Bridger is a big deal in the Star Wars universe, and Esfandi will be the first actor to play him in live-action. The character first debuted in the 2014 animated Star Wars Rebels series. He very quickly became a fan-favourite character and fans of the show have been wondering what Lucasfilm’s plans with the character are ever since Star Wars Rebels came to an end.

The character was originally voiced by actor Taylor Gray in the animated series. The character grew from an orphan with a knack for the Force into a Rebel who trained in the ways of the Jedi. It’s going to be really interesting to see where Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have in store for Ezra in this upcoming series. This is the Star Wars show that I, and I think many other Star Wars fans, am the most excited to see. We first saw Rosario Dawson as Ashoka in The Mandalorian Season 2. We then saw her again in The Book Of Boba Fett.

What about the rest of the Ahsoka Tano series cast? Well, before this news came out, there were a lot of rumours that Mena Massoud was in the running to be cast as Bridger in the series. However, it seems as though Disney and Lucasfilm went for some different in the end. That said, one actor that’s still in the fold to turn up in the upcoming Ahsoka series is Lars Mikkelsen. We were informed a while ago that he was approached to play Grand Admiral Thrawn in live-action in the series. We’re going to have to wait and see what happens on that front.

As for the rest of the series’ cast, we know that Rosario Dawson will lead the series as the titular character. Other stars include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno and Australian thespian Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Hayden Christensen reprises his role as Anakin Skywalker, and Ray Stevenson plays a mystery villain. We still don’t have any plot details for the series. However, it does seem as though Ahsoka will be looking for Grand Admiral Thrawn in the series.

Dave Filoni is writing the series and will also executive produce with fellow Star Wars mastermind Jon Favreau. Peter Ramsey, the Oscar-winning co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is helming at least one episode of the series, currently nearing the end of filming on season one. The casting comes a day before Saturday’s D23 panel. We’re expected to get more casting news at the upcoming Lucasfilm panel at D23.
