John Krasinski Won’t Be Mr Fantastic In Fantastic Four

John Krasinski played Mr Fantastic – aka Reed Richards – in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, but the actor has suggested that it was a one-time thing.

During an interview with The Wrap, the actor revealed that he doesn’t expect to return to the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which means that he won’t be playing the character in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

I mean, I say that’s what it means, but Krasinski could be lying! He is an actor, after all, and they are pretty good at lying. They do it professionally! That’s all acting really is.

However, I have a feeling that Krasinski will not be Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards in the upcoming movie. We were told previously that Marvel is looking to cast younger actors in the movie.

This would make a lot of sense to me, because they would want to establish them as the future of the MCU, and casting older and more well-known actors would not have the longevity that casting younger actors would have.

It would also be a lot more expensive to try and get the likes of Krasinski and potentially his wife, Emily Blunt, to sign on for multiple picture deals. They wouldn’t come cheap!

Anyway, here’s what Krasinski had to say about the possibility of him returning to play Reed Richards in the MCU:

There aren’t any discussions at all, the only discussion I had was actually in the second-to-last week of Jack Ryan. Kevin Feige called and said would you ever fly to L.A. and play in our sandbox for a day? I was honored to do it. I flew right from Budapest when we wrapped and went right to the ‘Doctor Strange’ set. I’m a big fan of all those characters and that world, so to get to play in that sandbox for one day was a real thrill.

Like his fellow Illuminati members, Krasinski’s Mr Fantastic came to a messy end when he confronted the rampaging Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen). Krasinski then added:

It’s totally insane. To be in a room with all those people, and again to be a part of that narrative is crazy. But yeah, being turned into spaghetti wasn’t my end goal in life as far as how it goes in the Marvel universe, but you know what it was fun nonetheless.

It really does sound as though Krasinski’s version of Reed Richards was only meant to be a one-time thing, which I’m fine with. It was a moment of pure fan-service from Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige.

We have an official release date for the MCU’s Fantastic Four movie. It’s been slated for release on February 14th, 2025. It will be part of the MCU’s Phase 6 and will be directed by Matt Shakman.

Shakman came onto the project after it was revealed that the film’s original director, Jon Watts, had left the movie due to ‘creative differences’.
