Here’s Why Jared Leto’s Joker Is Never Going To Fight Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck

Jared Leto Joker Suicide Squad

There have been rumours that Jared Leto wants to fight Joaquin’ Phoenix’s version of the Joker in a movie, and here’s why that will never happen. This rumour was started by We Got This Covered, who claimed that sources close to Leto informed them that the actor wants to make a movie where the two Jokers fight.

This will never happen, and let me explain why. First off, I highly doubt that Jared Leto has even floated the idea of a movie in which his Joker went up against Joaquin Phoenix’s.

There’s one good reason why he wouldn’t bring that idea up: he didn’t like the fact that Phoenix played the character in the first place. It was pretty well reported that Leto was not happy with Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films for having gone behind his back and hired another actor to play the role he’d just played in Suicide Squad.

That said, Leto seems to have let bigons be bigons as far as his beef with Warner Bros. and DC Films is concerned since he’s agreed to do additional photography for the upcoming Snyder Cut of Justice League.

Then, there’s also the fact that Joaquin Phoenix would never agree to this idea. He’s made it very clear that the only reason he agreed to play the character was because of Todd Phillips’ vision and the script.

If he were to turn up as Arthur Fleck in a movie that also featured Jared Leto’s Joker, it would just feel wrong and would also probably be more like the DCEU movies rather than the Phillips Joker film. The only instance where we’ll see Phoenix play Arthur Fleck again would be in a Joker 2.

He’s actually made that fact pretty clear ever since the movie came out. It was also reported that Warner Bros. Pictures offered Phoenix $50 million to return to play Fleck in Joker 2 (via the Mirror).

If that is true, then they would be spending almost as much money on Phoenix alone as they did on the whole first movie. This just sounds crazy to me, however, the first film did end up making over $1 billion at the box office, so maybe they see it as a shrewd bit of business.

That said, the amount of money they would have to fork out in order to get both him and Leto in one movie together isn’t worth thinking about. It would be ridiculously expensive, and I’m not even sure it would guarantee Warner Bros. Pictures much return on their investment.

Then, there’s also the fact that the appetite for more of Jared Leto’s Joker is actually pretty low. When it was announced that he would be doing reshoot for Zack Snyder’s Justice League, there was shock, but people weren’t overly excited by the news.

It was more like: “Really? They’re getting him back?” Rather than: “OMG! I cannot wait to see Jared Leto return as the Joker!”. Then there’s also the fact that Leto was embarrassed by the fact that Phoenix’s Joker performance received so much more praise than his did.

It was an obvious knock on his ego, and we know that actors have pretty big egos. Just imagine how he must have felt when Joaquin Phoenix was awarded the Best Actor Oscar for playing the same character that he had played just a few years previously. It would have hurt.

That said, there is the possibility that he’s seen past that and is now looking at how he can really get back into playing the iconic DC Comics villain again. Hopefully, him coming back for the Snyder Cut reshoots means he has looked past all of that.
