James Gunn wants to work with the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy in other projects, most likely under DC Studios. Gunn reveals his plans on Empire Online to work again with his actors at his new job.

It’s no secret that Gunn is working double duty on two comic book movie franchises. He’s still hard at work with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 and he’s also working as the co-CEO of DC Studios.

Gunn’s time at Marvel ends with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The film is set to release this coming May. It’s incredible to think that it all started with the first film back in 2014. Three movies and a TV special. Of course, with that amount of time working with the same team, you do create a bond.

The Guardians director treats his team as friends. He spends time getting to know the crew and also invites them to lunch and parties. He has posted pictures eating with the cast or even joining his recent wedding to Peacemaker star Jennifer Holland.

So, it’s not a surprise that Gunn plans to work with them again, including the cast of Guardians of the Galaxy. He said on Empire Online:

This cast are like my family. I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan]. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. (laughing) Probably at my other job.

It’s not a surprise if you do see actors jumping from one comic franchise to another. We’ve seen that before with Idris Elba (Bloodsport and Heimdall), Willem Dafoe (Vulko and Green Goblin), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon and J. Jonah Jameson), Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern and Deadpool), and several others.

The DC Studios CEO is known for working with his favourite actors. And regardless of how small the roles are, they return for Gunn. Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker have been in Gunn’s several projects. Both have roles in both Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad. The first time I saw Fillion and Rooker together was in Gunn’s directorial debut on Slither (2006).

James Gunn already included Mantis actress Pom Klementieff in The Suicide Squad as an uncredited dancer.

I’ve enjoyed what James Gunn has done with the Guardians of the Galaxy. And there is no stopping him from getting his friends to join the DC Universe if he wants to. At least he already knows how to work with them and get the best out of their performance.

Gunn is still working on his 10-year plan for the new DC Universe with Peter Safran. Their job is not going to be easy. He is practically considered as DC’s Kevin Feige. But that is quite a high bar to compare to. He has four years to prove himself that he’s the man for the job.

Currently, we don’t know what the new DC will turn out to be. Many presume that the current DC Universe is at an end. Mainly because of Gunn announcing a new Superman film without Henry Cavill. But that’s the only thing he said that practically affects how fans see the DCU.

He also said that a DC-related TV show is in the works. We still have to wait for an official announcement on other future projects from the new DC Studios. Until then, we can only speculate.
