James Bond Bosses Want Next Actor To Play 007 For 10+ Years

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have revealed that they want the next 007 actor to play the role for over a decade. They revealed this news during a recent interview with Variety, and I have to say that I agree with them. In order for the franchise to really survive, they need to cast an actor they can rely on for the next 10+ years. So, the question remains, who will they cast in the iconic role? Let’s talk about it!

First off, let’s check out what Broccoli actually had to say about the next actor to play 007 on the big screen:

The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off. And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10, 12-year commitment. So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].” Wilson pointed out: “And he was in his early 30s at the time!

Over the years, there’s been a lot of talk of Idris Elba taking on the role. However, even he said not too long ago that his time to play 007 has passed. During an interview on Jemele Hill’s Unbothered podcast, Elba said that he didn’t know anything about the role. It sounds to me as though he’s a bit bored of talking about Bond. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

I have no more answers for it. I just tell people ‘aw, don’t ask me that.’ Because a lot of times it’s really lazy journalism. And people try to use it as clickbait like ‘what’s he gonna say this time?’ I try to say the same things. Every now and then I just tease them, but every now and then I’ll give them some philosophy on why I don’t want to do it or why it’s a rumour. But most times now I tend not to talk about it.

Elab also spoke about Bond during an appearance on LeBron James’s show The Shop. He ended up talking about the role and revealed that it wasn’t exactly a career goal for him. Here’s what he said:

I’m not gonna lie, every corner of the world I go — and I’m talking about different cultures — they always go: ‘Bond!’ It is not a goal for my career,” Elba explained. “I don’t think that, you know, playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals.

So, Elba is one of the names that’s been connected to the role. However, if the producers want an actor to play the role for over ten years, I don’t think he would be on their radar because he’s just a bit too old. I think it would make more sense for them to be looking at much younger actors. There have been talks of the likes of Bridgerton stars, Jonathan Bailey and Regé-Jean Page being considered for the role.

However, I have a feeling that they might end up casting a lesser-known actor in the role this time around. I also have heard that they are actively looking at actors that aren’t thirtysomething white men. This means that the next actor to play the role could be from a more diverse background, which I actually think would be a good thing for the role. However, I also think that it would cause a bit of a stir online, but it would soon die down.
